Ahead of the fourth Rolex Series event of the season, three-time DP World Tour winner and Europe's Ryder Cup Vice Captai...
05/11/2024

Ahead of the fourth Rolex Series event of the season, three-time DP World Tour winner and Europe's Ryder Cup Vice Captain Edoardo Molinari identifies the key holes at Yas Links and the players to watch out for as he dives deep into the data.

Victor Perez produced an all-round performance to win his maiden Rolex Series title last year, coupled with excellent putting at Yas Links.

He gained around +0.8 shots per round off the tee, +1.1 on approach play and +1.6 on the greens.

The only part of his game that didn’t perform that week was the wedges, as he lost about -0.7 shots per round.

He got off to a slow start on day one, as he lost shots to the field everywhere apart from with his putting, but he then played three great rounds of golf, capped by a hole-out bunker shot for birdie on the 71st hole.

His approach play was particularly good from 175 yards to 225 yards where he gained 0.7 shots per round.

His putting was fantastic from 14 feet to 23 feet thanks to a very aggressive mindset as he left only 14% of putts short from that range versus 30% for the field.

The Fortinet Threat holes to watch out for
Hole 6
Measuring 468 yards, the par-four sixth has proven to be the toughest hole since the tournament moved to Yas Links in 2022.

The scoring average is usually around 4.23, so a par here is a great score.

Over the two previous editions, there have only been 11% of birdies against 29% of bogeys or worse.

Most holes at Yas Links have wide fairways, but this is unquestionably one of the most difficult fairways to find as only 51% of players hit this fairway. The penalty for missing the fairway is very high too as the scoring average is 0.5 shots per round higher for players missing the fairway off the tee.

Hole 7
This is the easiest hole on the course with a scoring average of 4.529 but it provides a lot of excitement as around half of the players will score a birdie or better.

The second shot is key on this hole as the entrance of the green is pretty narrow and it is difficult to get up and down if you are short sided, particularly from the right side of the green.

Hole 18
This finishing par five is one of the few par fives of the year that plays over par.

When the wind blows from the north west it is particularly difficult, despite the fairway being very wide (nearly 80 yards wide with just a small bunker in the middle).

Since 2022, there have only been 25% of birdies against 21% of bogeys or worse.

When the wind does blow, players will face a tricky decision on the tee shot: going left of the bunker is the risky strategy but they can get home in two shots, while going right means less risk but they will have to hit a good short iron to make a birdie.

Players to watch
This is a course that suits long drivers and great putters.

The fairways are the widest of the year, so you can only separate yourself by hitting it longer than the field off the tee and then make a lot of putts.

The greens are also very large so when the wind blows there will be a higher number of lag putts than the average tournament on Tour.

Here, I pick out some players who statistically have a good chance at performing well this week.

The Stars
Rory McIlroy is clearly one of the favourites again. He loves playing in the Middle East and he is the best player in the field. He can take full advantage of his driving around Yas Links and should he have a good week on the greens, he will be a force to contend with for everyone with any hopes of winning.

Adam Scott has been in great form since the summer. He is a great driver of the ball and in recent years he has become one of the best putters in the world. Yas Links should be a great fit for him and, like most Australians, he is used to chipping the ball off tight lies and putting on fast greens.

Rasmus Højgaard is all but confirmed of earning his PGA TOUR card and dual membership next season. He will play the last two Rolex Series events hoping to get that first card. Yas Links is very well suited for him, as his putting has been phenomenal in 2024 and he is a long hitter that can take advantage of the wide fairways.

04/11/2024

Dubai Airports has announced a landmark collaboration with Etihad Clean Energy Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DEWA, to launch the world’s largest rooftop solar panel installation project at an airport.

This phased project of total 39MWp of clean energy, which will be fully operational by 2026, involves the installation of 62,904 solar panels across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International (DWC) airports, set to generate 60,346MWh annually. This marks a significant stride toward decarbonising airport operations.

The solar panels, which will span passenger terminals and concourses across both airports, are expected to offset 23,000 tonnes of CO2 annually — equivalent to taking 5,000 cars off the road or powering 3,000 homes for a year. The energy generated will meet 6.5 per cent of DXB’s power needs and 20 per cent of DWC’s, reinforcing Dubai Airports’ long-term vision for cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable operations.

The project was announced in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, and His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

To solidify this ambitious initiative, Dubai Airports and Etihad Energy Services Company formalised an agreement during the prestigious World Green Economy Summit organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the World Green Economy Organization. The event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre last month.

The agreement was signed by Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports and Dr. Waleed Alnuaimi, CEO of Etihad ESCO.

Living Architecture Comes to Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island
Aldar’s Mamsha Palm sets a new standard for nature-infused design

Everything about Mamsha Palm by Aldar Properties is designed to command attention. The flowing, organic architecture by renowned Japanese architect Koichi Takada, the enriching environment in the heart of Saadiyat Island’s burgeoning cultural district, and the luxurious yet sustainable features of the residences all ensure that this will be the most extraordinary property in Abu Dhabi when it is completed in 2027.

Let’s begin with the building itself, with its low-rise, biophilic shape exemplifying the award-winning work of Sydney-based Takada. Known for his holistic structures that pay homage to nature, Takada has been acclaimed for his Upper House in Brisbane, with its “twisting roots” that rise 33 stories, and the “architectural forest” of the Solar Trees Marketplace in Shanghai. For Mamsha Palm, the architect has created a striking façade of undulating rooflines and verandas that mirror the efficiency and serenity of the natural world, supported by columns that rise from the earth like slender tree trunks.

Mamsha Palm’s location is equally noteworthy, just steps away from the white sands of Soul Beach, which stretches for a kilometer along the turquoise Persian Gulf, as well as the Mamsha promenade, with its complement of lively shops and restaurants. The project is also conveniently close to internationally distinguished museums that define the growing cultural district. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, designed by Jean Nouvel, opened in 2017; the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by Frank Gehry as a repository of modern and contemporary art, is set to open in 2025; and the Zayed National Museum, designed by Foster + Partners, will also open in 2025, showcasing the history, culture, and economic transformation of the United Arab Emirates.

With only 44 units, Mamsha Palm epitomizes a home designed for serene living. The spacious floor plans range from one- to three-bedroom residences (84–259 square meters, inclusive of balconies) to expansive four-bedroom sky villas (635–837 square meters, inclusive of balconies).

Crowning the rare and coveted sky villas are soaring high ceilings that amplify the sense of space and grandeur. Residents are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Abu Dhabi’s cultural district, including the iconic museums that have put the emirate on the global art map. Each sky villa has a dedicated space for a home gym, allowing residents to maintain their wellness routines without leaving the comfort of their private sanctuary. The walk-in closets are a testament to the attention to details, providing ample storage and a touch of glamour to daily life. Every sky villa even comes with three extra parking spaces—a rare luxury that speaks volumes about convenience and exclusivity.

Fine amenities are evident throughout the property, beginning with the dramatic double-height lobby lounge. All the residents of Mamsha Palm can indulge in a rooftop pool, unwind in the sauna and ice bath, stay active in the gym, and relax in the traditional Japanese tearoom, which offers a selection of beverages and light fare.

A dedicated children’s play area highlights the property’s family-friendly amenities, complementing the array of lifestyle features designed for residents of all ages. Mamsha Palm also will have a concierge on staff to answer inquiries, arrange reservations, and cater to homeowners’ needs.

In keeping with the UAE directives on the environment, the project has used sustainable materials in construction and green building technology to reduce carbon emissions, meriting Abu Dhabi’s Three-Pearl Estidama Certification and Fitwel’s two-stars certification.

Mamsha Palm is developed by Aldar, a leading real estate developer and manager in the UAE, founded in 2005. Renowned for creating integrated and livable communities in some of Abu Dhabi’s most desirable locations, including Saadiyat Island, Aldar is dedicated to community focus, collaboration, and sustainability.

03/11/2024

Abu Dhabi Airports served 21.7 million passengers in the first nine months of 2024, an increase of +31.2% year-on-year.

This strong growth was sustained in Q3, with 7.7 million passengers passing through the group’s airports (mostly at Zayed International), up +27% compared to Q3 2023. On 2 August, Zayed International reported its busiest day on record, facilitating the travel of 92,677 passengers.

Abu Dhabi Airports said the “remarkable” surge in passenger numbers underlines Abu Dhabi’s growing prominence as a preferred hub for leisure and business travellers, particularly during the peak summer season.

Traffic was spurred by an expanded route network through existing airline partners plus the addition of new airlines, including Turkmenistan Airlines, Hainan Airlines, US Bangla, British Airways, Akasa Air, Flynas, Air Samarkand, and the resumption of Aeroflot’s seasonal operations.

Point-to-point passenger traffic for the first nine months grew +27.3% year-on-year to 10.3 million. Transfer traffic surged +36% to 10.9 million passengers.
Zayed International Airport is recognised as the Middle East’s fastest-growing airport in terms of international seat capacity, Abu Dhabi Airpors said, quoting the Official Airline Guide.

Aircraft movements also saw a positive trend, rising +10.2% in the first nine months to 185,485. London maintained its position as the top destination, followed by Mumbai, Kochi, Cairo and Doha.
Abu Dhabi Airports Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Elena Sorlini said: “We are thrilled to report these strong year-to-date results, which clearly demonstrate the pace and robustness of our growth across Abu Dhabi Airports.

“The addition of new airlines and the strong performance of our existing partners reflect the confidence in Abu Dhabi as a leading aviation hub.

“This confidence is also reflected in our cargo operations, and we remain committed to investing in our infrastructure and services to further enhance connectivity and trade, strengthening our position as a key player in the global aviation landscape.

“This impressive momentum positions Abu Dhabi Airports for continued growth, further solidifying its role in connecting Abu Dhabi to the world.” ✈
