Hijack on set for ‘Flight 422’

For this production, Hijack provided essential on-set DIT services, live streaming, and near-set lab support. The challenge was monumental: capturing the 1988 Kuwait Airways hijacking that spanned three continents and 16 days. To meet the demands, our DIT team, led by Nic Turton and Nick Hughes, set up a remote lab at Dunsfold Aerodrome. Two Boeing 747s were transformed into authentic 1980s Kuwait Airline planes, one for exteriors and one for interiors.

We meticulously planned a show LUT in collaboration with Director of Photography Dirk Nel, which was applied to rushes and adjusted as needed, with real-time dailies for director approval.

On this unique set, video village space was a luxury, so our team provided a reliable, low-latency video feed. We established a multi-access point WIFI network throughout the aircraft, along with robust RG6 Coaxial BNC cable to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

Live camera feeds were globally streamed through Hijack Live, allowing worldwide viewers to join the shoot in real-time. Our strong internet connection enabled remote crew members to participate and provide feedback.

Uploading edit-ready proxies and archiving to LTO-8 happened seamlessly throughout the day. The Hijack team thrived on this challenge, creating a fluid workflow for a project with extraordinary requirements.

Behind the scenes with Moose and a prop gun!

Moose is one of our experienced Digital Imaging Technicians, as well as a Colourist at Hijack. He is comfortable with managing large amounts of data on multi-camera shoots, while also providing Live Grading, on set colour adjustments and look/LUT creation.
