The very lazy parent: As I was picking up Ridhwan from school a guardian reminded me that the next day was World Book Day. Of course I saw the school mail a week ago but it slipped my mind. Do you have potatoes at home ? the guardian asked me. Yes I have! Oh this time the school decided instead of wearing costumes children should dress/decorate a potato as their favourite book character. Hmmm.... I asked Ridhwan what his favourite character was but he could not decide. I intended to decorate a potato with him in the evening but again after preparing evening meal and feeding him it slipped my mind again! The next morning as I was getting Ridhwan ready for school and literally 15 minutes to go suddenly it dawned on me that we forgot the potato. I swiftly resorted to google to find out ideas. There were so many!! Also they were so elaborate and time consuming most of them; I guess the week old e-mail wanted me to get a head start on the project but now it was lost cause. I kept thinking what can I do with a potato quickly, provided we also have a book with a character to match it. Ahhh.. how about a mouse? I had the book but not the resources. I quickly rummaged Ridhwan's art and craft box and all I could find suitable was some coloured tissue paper, and googly eyes. I didn't have paint to colour the potatoes. So I decided "ladybird" its going to be. I found the book and with the help of some masking tape, glue, black sign pen and with Ridhwan's active help we made our potato ladybird in 5 minutes and the rest 5 minutes left the googly eyes to dry. Of course the ladybird was not evenly shaped and if we had given it more thought and time it could have been more realistic and prettier but that's for next world book day project hopefully.
