Thierry Breton's surprisingly public last-minute resignation as France's European Commission nominee was the talk of the town on Monday (16 September).
While Paris quickly replaced the outgoing Commissioner with former MEP and Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Séjourné, Breton's final salvo aimed at Commission President Ursula von der Leyen further made sure her new mandate was off to a rocky start.
Is Thierry Breton's resignation as European Commissioner due to personal tensions between him and von der Leyen?
Or are there reasons connected to Breton's policy in office behind his quitting?
Today, #RadioSchuman asks Elvire Fabry, a senior researcher at the Institute Jacques Delors, to comment on the Commission's fiery start to the week.
French women rally against sexual violence
“The message we need to get across is, above all, that when it's no, it's no,” French protester Lucie says at a feminist rally in Paris on Saturday.
Together with thousands of demonstrators across France, Lucie took to the streets to call for the end of violence against women and show her support to Gisèle Pélicot.
Pélicot, now a symbol of France's fight against sexual violence, was allegedly drugged by her now ex-husband over a decade so that she could be raped by dozens of men.

Brussels mayor slams Hungary's plan to send migrants to the city by bus.
"This is not how we do politics," Philippe Close told Euronews. "Hungary, if it continues, will feel the consequences."
"Orbán's government is also a small government. We will resist and Hungary will buckle under the weight of Europe (...) We will not be held hostage to a far-right government like Orbán's," he added.
Budapest's proposal to pay for migrants to go to Brussels is seen as a retaliation for a €200 million fine imposed on Hungary by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in June for measures it introduced in 2020 to restrict the right to asylum.
No bus transfers have yet taken place and it's unclear when they will happen, if at all.

Will the EU cut its landmark Erasmus + programme?
Heated discussions are set to start next week as MEPs vote in Strasbourg on the EU 2025 budget.
The European Parliament and European Commission are likely to fight back against cuts - including to the Erasmus+ program - agreed by the Council before the three institutions are set to wrangle the 2025 budget in November.
Today #RadioSchuman discusses this matter with the French MEP Emma Rafowicz.
Israeli strike on Gaza humanitarian zone tent camp kills at least 40 people.
Palestinian officials say at least 60 others have been wounded in the overnight attack.
Gaza's Civil Defense said it had recovered 40 bodies from the strike in an Israeli-designated humanitarian zone known as Muwasi and was still looking for people.
It said entire families were killed as they huddled in tents.
“We were sleeping, suddenly it was like a tornado, a pile of stones, smoke, fire, the trees were burning," described Samar Moamar, who lost one daughter in the strike and saw a second injured.
"My youngest daughter was under the rubble, the other one was martyred and I got injured," she said.
Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, one of three hospitals to receive casualties, said around two dozen bodies were brought in from the strike.
Earlier, an Associated Press camera operator saw three large craters at the scene, where first responders and displaced people were sifting through the sand and rubble with garden tools and their bare hands by the light of mobile phones.
Israel disputed the death toll and said it targeted “significant” Hamas militants.
It was among the deadliest strikes yet in Muwasi, a sprawl of crowded tent camps along the Gaza coast that Israel designated as a humanitarian zone for hundreds of thousands of civilians to seek shelter from the Israel-Hamas war.
