Dear Community,

We have recently become aware of instances where individuals falsely claim to hold The NNEB qualification.

Unfortunately, such misrepresentation is not uncommon in the nanny and maternity nurse professions. While these individuals often get caught eventually, it’s crucial to remain vigilant. Some have even managed to join NNEB groups by providing false answers and information.

If you are considering hiring someone who claims to be NNEB qualified, here are some steps to verify their credentials:

1. Request the Original Certificate - Ask to see their official NNEB certificate. Check for signs of tampering, such as changes to the name or qualification dates.

2. Verify Training Details -
Inquire about the college they attended and the training they completed. Ensure their timeline aligns with the NNEB and CACHE training durations.

3. Contact Us - for Guidance If you are uncertain about a candidate's authenticity, feel free to reach out. Many NNEB professionals working in regulated roles are experienced in verifying qualifications.

4. Lost Certificates -
If a candidate claims they have lost their certificate, avoid making assumptions. For those who genuinely qualified with an NNEB but have lost their documentation, guidance is available further down this page.

Important Legal Reminder In the UK - providing false information on a CV constitutes CV fraud, which is a criminal offence. Penalties include substantial fines and, in severe cases, imprisonment of up to 10 years.

While childcare sectors often enforce stringent checks to protect vulnerable members of society, these standards are not always upheld in the maternity nursing and nanny industries. This highlights the need for thorough due diligence when reviewing qualifications.

By remaining vigilant, we can collectively uphold the integrity of the NNEB qualification and the Childcare and Education profession and ensure the safety and well-being of the families and children we serve.

Thank you for your continued attention to this important matter.

We would like to share with you an email sent to a fellow NNEB today for those of you querying the price of the NNEB Badge.

Subject: Response to Query Regarding Pin Badge Pricing

Dear,

Thank you for your email and for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding the pricing of our NNEB badge. We appreciate your interest and the opportunity to provide you with a detailed explanation.

The cost of our NNEB badge reflects a combination of factors that contribute to ensuring its high quality, craftsmanship, and the enduring tradition behind its production. Below, I’ve outlined the primary considerations that influence the pricing:

1. Sterling Silver Material:
This badge is made from sterling silver, a precious metal known for its durability, beauty, and timeless appeal. The use of sterling silver ensures that the badge is not only a functional item but also a cherished keepsake. Naturally, the use of such a high-quality material increases the cost compared to alternatives made from base metals.

2. British Craftsmanship with an 80-Year Tradition:
Our NNEB badge is crafted by a reputable British business that has proudly upheld this tradition for the past 80 years. The continuation of this heritage means the badge carries not only material value but also historical and cultural significance. Maintaining this legacy requires adherence to the same meticulous standards of design and craftsmanship that have been valued for decades.

3. Meticulous Manufacturing Process:
The creation of each badge involves a series of intricate steps, including die-casting, polishing, and hallmarking, to ensure precision and authenticity. These stages are labor-intensive and require highly skilled artisans to achieve the iconic design associated with the NNEB.

4. Ethical and Local Production Practices:
By choosing to work with a British business, we support ethical manufacturing and local artisans while reducing the environmental footprint associated with overseas production. This commitment to quality and responsible sourcing contributes to the higher cost but aligns with our values of sustainability and fairness.

5. Symbolic and Historical Value:
The NNEB badge represents more than just a piece of jewellery—it is a symbol of achievement and dedication for those NNEB’s in the field of childcare and early years education. Its design and materials are intended to reflect the prestige and pride associated with this qualification.

6. Additional Costs:
Beyond production, there are various operational expenses that factor into the pricing, including packaging, presentation boxes, third party platform selling fees, digital fees, distribution with tracking fees, and customer support. We also ensure the badge is presented in high-quality, eco-friendly packaging to complement its significance and protect it during transit.

While we understand that our NNEB badge may appear more expensive compared to mass-produced alternatives or what it cost 32 to 80 years ago, we are confident that the combination of sterling silver craftsmanship, British production, and an 80-year tradition makes it a worthwhile investment for those who appreciate its quality and heritage.

If you have any additional questions or would like further details about the badge, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to assist.

Thank you again for your enquiry and for supporting a product that celebrates both craftsmanship, tradition and the National Nursery Examination Board Childcare and Education Diploma.

As a new association, we aim to tackle and touch upon perhaps sensitive but silent behaviour that is going on in our industry. 🩵

As an unregulated industry, it is the industry’s responsibility to guide how we want it to be. Everyone involved-Nannies, families, agencies, pay rolls companies, course providers all play a part in steering the day to day.

Therefore today we are talking about visual discrimination.

Some families and nanny agencies seeking nannies display a preference based on appearance rather than qualifications and experience. This behaviour has prompted some nanny agencies to adopt policies that prevent the sharing of candidates' photographs.

The nanny industry has always had to balance between the expectations of employers and the professional integrity of the caregivers they represent. However, an increasing number of families and some agencies, have started to make demands that are more about vanity than competency. These families sometimes seek nannies who fit a particular aesthetic ideal, which can include considerations of age, ethnicity, and physical appearance, rather than focusing on the crucial aspects of childcare expertise and experience.

Visual discrimination not only undermines the professionalism of nannies but also places undue pressure on them. Nannies who do not meet certain visual expectations may find it harder to secure employment, regardless of their skills and dedication. This discrimination can be particularly detrimental to candidates from diverse backgrounds, age, race, a nanny with a disability or illness, and male Nannies, further perpetuating inequality within the industry. This is not OK, and has to change.

A Call for Change

For the nanny profession to be truly respected, there needs to be a cultural shift in how caregivers are perceived. Families and agencies must recognise the importance of a nanny’s ability to provide nurturing and effective childcare, which cannot be determined by looks. Agencies, on their part, play a crucial role by upholding policies that prevent visual discrimination and promote a fairer hiring process. It is a vital step towards ensuring fairness and equality. It is a reminder that the true value of a nanny lies in their skills, experience, and the care they provide – attributes that far outweigh any visual considerations.

Have you been discriminated against in the hiring process? Let us know below.
