Lessons from 30+ years of climate activism and how to engage with people who don’t agree with you.

George has been an activist, researcher and campaigner since the late 1980’s and is a specialist in public communications on climate change. He is unusual for working at all levels of environmental campaigning. He was a key figure in the direct action movement of the early 1990s and one of the founding group of Risingtide, one of the first protest groups on climate change. He has worked with all the main environmental organisations, was the director of the Greenpeace US forests campaign and the international campaigner for the US based Rainforest Foundation. He co-founded Climate Outreach, a charity specialising in public engagement. And he has been a senior consultant and strategic advisor to 13 governments, the UNFCCC and the World Bank.

He has worked around the world- supporting indigenous landrights struggles in Papua New Guinea, Belize and Sarawak; designing engagement programmes in Germany Australia, Canada (especially Alberta), India and North Africa. He is now working with the Irish government to build support for climate action across Ireland.

He has written two book Carbon Detox (Hamlyn Gaia, 2007) – a personal guide to reducing climate change impacts and Don’t Even Think About It: Why Our Brains Are Wired to Ignore Climate Change (Bloomsbury, 2014) - an exploration of the social-psychological obstacles to climate action. It is currently on its 7th printing, had strong reviews, and was listed by Esquire as one of the ’15 essential books on climate change’. �

A Stadler-made hydrogen-powered electric train set a new Guinness World Record, traveling 1,741 miles nonstop.

The achievement occurred on a Colorado test track using a hydrogen-powered passenger car prototype.

The hydrogen-powered train built by Stadler is called FLIRT-H2. It has two passenger cars with one power pack in the middle.

The power pack keeps hydrogen in fuel tanks and uses fuel cells to convert it into electricity.

California has ordered four FLIRT H2 trains, signaling growing interest in sustainable rail transport. Stadler’s CEO highlights the company’s commitment to eco-friendly rail technology.
