*Witness appeal following fatal collision in Tower Hamlets*

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and any road users with dash cam footage to come forward following a fatal collision in Tower Hamlets.

Police were called at 00:25hrs on Saturday 23 November to reports of a collision involving a bus and a cyclist on Westferry Road, E14.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. The cyclist, a 45-year-old man, was treated at the scene. Despite the efforts of the medical team he died at the scene.

Officers have been in contact with his next of kin and continue to provide them with support.

The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. There has been no arrest.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has footage should call police on 101 or post on X quoting reference CAD178/23NOV24.

PROTEST OUTSIDE BETHNAL GREEN POLICE STATION

Over 100 angry protestors have gathered outside Bethnal Green Police Station demanding the release of a pro Palestine campaigner who was apparently assaulted by a police officer earlier today.

Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman addressed the crowd urging them to let the police investigate, but he struggled to keep the protestors calm.

Earlier, a viral video showed a man with a Palestine flag being punched by an officer while seemingly not posing any physical threat.

Tower Hamlets Police say the man was arrested for assaulting police.

MATCH REPORT: PLAYOFF FINAL

FT: Romford FC 1-3 Sporting Bengal

In the biggest game in the club’s history, promotion to Step 4 football was up for grabs for the first time ever but non-league giants and FA Vase finalists, Romford FC, stood in the way for Sporting Bengal!

With Rookery Hill packed to the rafters with both sets of fans, the atmosphere was electric and it was Bengal who were hungrier to make a mark when Tanvir found skipper, Carvell, who picked up the ball down the right and whipped in a pinpoint ball for striker Jay Knight to head into the corner! 1-0 Bengal at half time.

The Bengal Tigers had no intention of stopping as they came roaring out in the second half and doubled the lead when Carvell released Timi down the left. The fullback beat his man and whipped in a great ball for Joe Gregory to head in! Stunning finish. 2-0 Bengal against the odds!

Moments later, an Okah longball created havoc for the keeper and Rian pounced to send the Bengal fans into jubilation! Unbelievable scenes as the whole of Essex watched on in shock as the boys from East London dominated! 3-0 Bengal just before the hour.

Romford got a goal back after a good volley by Finlay soon after and then sent on ex-Bengal midfielder, Ashaan Siddik, from the bench to try turn it around. But the Sporting Bengal wall stood strong once again with every single player giving it everything for the shirt. Veteran defender, Freddy Tandon, stood tallest, keeping Romford’s star striker, Hassan Nalbant, quiet and limiting chances to a minimum.

As the clock ticked, the referee blew the full-time whistle to confirm Sporting Bengal’s promotion to Step 4 football as they became the first ever Essex Senior League Playoff Winners!

An unbelievable achievement by the Manager, Steven Clark and his team who worked against the odds all season to make the unthinkable a reality! That’s now back-to-back Playoff Promotions for Sporting Bengal and after being tipped to be relegated by all the ESL experts this season, the Bengal Express can finally end at its destination in the Isthmian Football League. 🐅🚂

Local Petition Seeks Recognition of Palestine in Tower Hamlets A petition has been submitted to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, urging the official recognition of the state of Palestine. The initiative, led by the Tower Hamlets Palestine Information Centre, is a response to recent efforts to remove a Palestinian flag displayed by residents in solidarity. Established in October 2023 following a meeting attended by over 700 people, the Tower Hamlets Palestine Information Centre seeks to promote local and civic action on the Palestine issue. Ajmal Masroor, a representative of the Palestine Information Centre, highlighted the historical significance of Tower Hamlets but emphasized that Palestine is the current focus. "Palestine is the most moral cause of our time," said Masroor. The petition aims to address the community sentiment supporting the right of Palestinians to live in an independent state. The goal is to persuade the Tower Hamlets Council to officially recognize Palestine at the local level. Masroor urged residents to engage with the petition, stating, "By signing this petition, we can persuade Tower Hamlets council to recognize Palestine as an independent state locally."
