BEEN London We make accessories entirely from recycled materials, handmade in East London. You can read more about our materials here.

We are a London-based group of designers, journalists, photographers and sustainability experts united by the idea of doing something about our everyday waste. All our products are made of materials that make us squeak with delight - think leather offcuts turned into premium recycled leather, beautiful paper made of disposable coffee cups and even gorgeous zips made of those used plastic bottles w

e are all guilty of using. Our philosophy is based on making everyone part of the solution. We believe that by making everyday choices every one of us can make a huge difference. So we are creating products people want at a price they can afford, so the more we sell, the more waste we can take out of the system. We put all our profits back into BEEN to make ethical essentials more accessible and - in our ideal world - mainstream. We work with the world's most innovative teams and technologies to make our products of the most sustainable recycled materials. The leather used in our bags uses 80 times less water than needed to make a virgin leather bag! We hope you'll enjoy your BEEN products for decades to come, and we are about to launch a recycling scheme, so that you can send us your end of life BEEN products and we make sure their story continues as something else. And we promise to only make essentials, the things you would need to buy anyway, so that living sustainably becomes a part of your daily life and not just a luxury add-on. We'd love to hear from you, so please do get in touch. And we hope you love our products as much as we do.

This Earth Day, we are excited to share three new circular initiatives to offer more end-of-life solutions for your bags.Circularity is at the heart of BEEN London. We craft accessories using materials already in circulation, design to ensure as little waste as possible, and offer repairs to keep our bags in circulation as long as possible.

But the biggest challenge has always been the end of life. Items like bags (and shoes) have lots of components, often glued together making reuse and recycling difficult.

Through BEEN Circular, we're offering three new initiatives to rehome or recycle your used bags:

RESALE: Coming very soon is our own Resale solution for BEEN handbags.

DONATE: We're continuing to collect used bags from any brand in a great condition and donating them to – a UK charity that helps women secure employment.

RECYCLE: For bags truly at the end of their life, we're partnering with Upcycle Labs to create new material.

Together let's keep that circular economy spinning.

It's and we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the people behind our brand. The hands you see in the picture belong to Jana, who has been an integral part of our team since the brand's inception several years ago. She was the one who created our very first sample and fulfilled our initial Kickstarter orders, and she continues to maintain the quality of every piece we produce in East London to this day.

Noticing details ---Look at everything you're wearing right now and notice all the curves in the panels - the sleeves, the hem curves, the trouser cut. And then imagine how much waste cutting all those irregular shapes creates. On average, up to 40% of fabric can end up on the cutting floor due to design not taking it into account. This number is much much higher in leather goods, as makers work with very irregular shapes of natural hides.

A book, a pair of sunglasses, a wallet, a bit of makeup and maybe even a small umbrella? The way we designed our Millais is to fit it all. The strap is adjustable so you can wear it as a crossbody or a shoulder bag for all those summer events and date nights. Comes in Black, Acacia or a bright Zest.

This is the behind the scenes, the making of our bestselling Annis sling. Every single panel of every piece is first edge painted by hand and then dried in this beautiful, mountain like shape. The way we work is quite different to most brands. The whole bag is usually handcrafted by just one or two makers and takes several hours to complete.
It's pretty magical seeing a few bits of material turning into a beautiful finished piece in front of your eyes. Is this something you'd like to see? We're thinking of organising a virtual or IRL tour of one of our workshops sometime soon.
