Setting clear goals is the first step to making video work for you this year. Before you start filming, ask yourself:

• What do I want to achieve?
• Do I want to grow my business or build trust with my audience?
• Is there something creative I’ve always wanted to try?

Once you’re clear on your 'why,' it’s easier to stay focused. Maybe it’s creating one video a week or sharing more behind-the-scenes moments. Write your goals down and make them your focus.

Remember, progress happens step by step. Don’t try to do everything at once - just start small, plan your ideas, and enjoy the process.

What are your video goals for 2025? Let’s talk about how to make them happen.

January is all about fresh starts and setting goals for the year ahead. If you’re running a business or growing your brand, video is one of the best ways to connect with people in 2025.

Video isn’t just a 'nice-to-have' anymore—it’s essential. Social media platforms love video content, making it a powerful way to get noticed. But it’s more than just a tool for visibility—it’s personal, it’s real, and it builds trust.

When people see and hear from you on video, they connect with your story, your personality, and what makes you tick. That connection is what helps you stand out and grow.

What’s stopping you from using video in 2025? Let’s make this your year to shine on camera! 🎥

Preparing for a Strong Start in 2025

As we step into a new year, January is the perfect time to get clear on what you’d like to do with video. Starting strong can set the tone for your business in 2025 and help you connect with your audience in a way that really resonates.

Here’s how to plan ahead:

• Set clear goals: What do you want to achieve this year? Think about how video can help you get there. Maybe you can team up with a fellow business owner to share ideas and come up with a plan that works for you both.

• Review past content: Look back at your previous videos - what worked well, and what didn’t hit the mark? Use those insights to shape your approach.

• Plan ahead: A simple content calendar can make a big difference. Knowing what’s coming up - key dates, campaigns, or events - will keep you organised and reduce stress.

• Invest in simple tools: You don’t need to spend a fortune. A stabiliser or clip-on microphone can help improve the quality of your videos without breaking the bank.

The key to making your year shine is starting with a solid plan. Whether you’re aiming to grow your audience, showcase your products, or tell your story, now is the time to get organised.

What will your focus be for 2025? Let’s talk about how video can help you achieve your goals!

In 2025, staying ahead of video trends like short-form content, interactive videos, and eco-conscious production will help your business stand out. But the most important focus is still building real connections with your audience.

Here are some trends to watch:

Short-form video: Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are leading the way with quick, engaging content that’s perfect for reaching audiences fast.

Interactive videos: These allow viewers to do more than just watch - they can click, explore, and even shop directly within the video, making your content more engaging and practical.

360-degree and AR/VR experiences: Augmented reality enhances the real world with digital elements like graphics or text, while virtual reality creates a fully digital world you can step into and explore.

Eco-conscious production: Sustainability is influencing how we create. Businesses are finding ways to produce videos that use fewer resources and smarter, more environmentally friendly ways of doing things.

However, while trends like these can help you stand out, the real value must still lie in how well you connect with your audience. People remember how you make them feel and how well you understand their needs - not just the tools you use.

Editing and Sharing Your Christmas Videos

Once you’ve captured those festive moments, it’s time to bring it all together. Here are a few editing tips to give your Christmas video that festive touch:

- Editing apps for beginners: Try iMovie (iOS) or InShot (Android/iOS) for easy editing on the go. These apps make it simple to trim clips, add music, and arrange scenes. Give it a go - it's a lot easier than you might think to start playing around with!

- Add festive special effects: A bit of music or some festive filters can create that classic Christmas vibe. Just don’t overdo it - keep it natural. I’ve popped a link to copyright free site I use all the time – you can trial it for free – link in the comments 👇

- Share the spirit: Once edited, share your video on social media or send it directly to family and friends. For a unique option, you could upload it privately to YouTube or Vimeo for people to watch anytime.

Storytelling Tips for Memorable Christmas Videos

Whether you're capturing festive moments with family or creating Christmas content for your business, by telling a story, it will bring it all to life.

A few guidelines to keep you on track:

● Plan your shots: Think of the key moments you want to capture - like opening presents, decorating, or sharing a festive toast. Having a simple shot list keeps things focused and makes sure you don’t miss a thing.

● Get creative with angles: Capture a close-up of fairy lights, wide shots of a family or team gathering, and a mix of fun, candid moments. Of course, Christmas isn’t for everyone, but a lot of people love it and often it’s a rare time for people to get together and breath at the end of a year.

● Business or vlogging? Consider a holiday ‘day in the life’ or a behind-the-scenes look at your festive setup. Perhaps you can bring some comedy into your ideas – or do some candid and fun interviews with team members to add a bit more sparkle to proceedings.

It’s all about making your audience feel connected to the moment.

Getting the Best Video Quality on Your Smartphone

To make the most of your holiday videos, a few simple smartphone tweaks can go a long way!

Here are some tips to get the best quality out of your phone this season:

Clean your lens: A quick wipe before filming can improve clarity more than you might think.

Free up space: Video files can take up lots of storage. Clear out any old files to make room for new images.

Adjust settings for high resolution: Set your camera to its highest quality (4K if you have it) to get sharp, beautiful footage.

With these quick steps, your videos will look crisp and clear. What special Christmas scenes are you planning to capture?

Today marks 12 years since Take the Cake Productions began, and as I look back, I'm filled with gratitude for every individual and business I’ve had the privilege to work with. It all began as a comedy production company back in 2012, creating shows like Scariest Places, Merrick Alora's Ghost Towns, and Morbid—all projects that helped me shape my craft and develop skills that have taken me across the UK and beyond.

Reflecting on these past 12 years, it’s clear that the real heart of this journey isn’t the equipment or the latest editing tricks; it’s the people. The countless professionals and creators who have walked through my doors, trusting me to bring their visions to life through video marketing, have truly made this work special.

I am deeply grateful for each of you who has trusted me—not only to create content but to deliver on a promise. Some have even overcome a fear of cameras, and it’s been a privilege to help make that leap possible. Thank you for being part of this journey, for your belief in me, and for letting Take the Cake Productions be part of your story.

Here's to 12 years and many more to come! 🥂

When I started in 2012, video was a luxury for big businesses. Now, anyone can create video content, and it’s one of the most powerful tools for connecting with your audience. From HD to 4K, the tech has come a long way.

It’s been incredible to watch video evolve, and I’m proud to have been part of that adventure.

Need help telling your business story through video? You don’t need big ideas to create something amazing. Just a spark of an idea can inspire many more.

I can't believe that I'm celebrating 12 years of Take The Cake Productions at the end of the month.

I have been reflecting on some of the shows that I have created. Starting with Scariest Places which ran from 2014 - 2021 and then on to Merrick Alora's Ghost Towns in 2016 with a 2 part special. Then finally the long-awaited Morbid in 2017 -2018 which I started writing back in 2007.

After looking back on the last 12 years I think it's safe to say that I am due a new independent project. I feel I need to write, film, and produce a new concept or carry on with some of my old creations. Plus I feel I need to do some more acting as I haven't performed since 2017.
