A lot of the prototype aluminium milled components were turning out to be absolutley extortionate. So with the power of 3D printing, some graft and blood we converted a second hand mini mill to be a CNC mill, perfect for creating all our custom aluminium components. 3D printing is awesome! Blog post to follow soon.

Since our last blog post, we have been busy putting PHOTON through its paces. So far, we have had more than 500 hours of print time. Most of it has been spent in optimising the printer to give us the best possible print quality. We have also been working on the Z probe, testing our MK2 hot end and i...

Great news! We have finished the prototype. All foam lined panels have been fastened to the frame, helping with noise dampening and minimising drafts. The front panel has had magnets embedded in it so that it can be quickly snapped into place. The top panel has not been added due to an oversight in…

Much progress has been made on the prototype since our update last month, and we are now tantalisingly close to finishing it. Here’s the current status of the prototype for March: Extruder Nozzle Temperature Error The Mintemp error was rectified by replacing the thermistor. Our testing revealed that…

We are currently troubleshooting a few problems with the prototype. First up was the hot end. Using an E3D-V6 full metal nozzle, modified to fit our print head, required a few fins being trimmed. The original stepper motor was not powerful enough to drive the filament through the nozzle, so to compe…

http://physeterindustries.com/?p=250

The design of the heated bed was one of the most crucial elements to get right for PHOTON. It had to be the correct size, easy to print on, and heated, to reduce thermal warpage on large parts. The size of the bed impacts the amount of power required to heat it. Thermal lag was …

Many may not know this, but we named ourselves after Physeter Macrocephalus, AKA the s***m whale. A few have washed up on Lincolnshire beaches, where we are based. It's an absolute tragedy that these amazing creatures have died.

Pods of young male s***m whales are now regularly stranded along Britain's coast. Why?
