Mareel is the UK's most northerly music, cinema and creative industries centre, operated by Shetland Arts Development Agency. The studio has 3 main spaces - the cosy Live Room, the light and airy Green Room, and the beautiful Auditorium. Due to the nature of the building however, we can record in virtually any corner, corridor or bathroom! As the Auditorium is also a live music venue we can easily
produce multi-track recordings of a concert should you want to make a live album. We have a wide range of modern and vintage recording equipment and an excellent selection of microphones. We also have a huge array of instruments and backline available: Steinway grand piano, Rhodes electric piano, double bass, drumkits, amplifiers, keyboards etc etc. Shetland has a wealth of local talent and session musicians are readily available. Residential packages are available and recording sessions can be dovetailed with extra activities such as workshops and concerts. And never to be overlooked - the legendary Shetland hospitality. Whether it's beach bonfires in the midnight sun, Vikings burning galleys in the winter nights, traditional music sessions in the Lerwick Lounge or Heavy Metal festivals, there are plenty extra curricular activities at hand!
