The Book Guild

The Book Guild An independent publisher delivering quality partnership and mainstream book publishing services. Submissions must therefore be commercial in nature.

An independent partnership and commercial publisher that publishes about 170 titles a year. We offer both traditional and partnership publishing, with all our titles being fully or co-funded by the company. We do not offer a self-publishing service, but authors may be asked to contribute to the publication of a book in some way, with the Book Guild funding the rest. The Book Guild has acquired a s

olid reputation for publishing books across all genres since its establishment over 35 years ago. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts in all genres for consideration. Submissions from agents are accepted but an agent is not essential, we accept author submissions direct. All submissions will first be considered for a traditional publishing model; if we do not feel that a manuscript is suitable for our traditional publishing programme, we will then consider it for some form of partnership publishing.

A collection of shorter fiction by BAFTA-nominated comedy-writer Paul A Mendelson. Mostly humorous in tone, yet with serious themes, they exhibit an intriguing range of subjects and styles:

♦️ A romantic comedy about a single woman in her late thirties who sets out to have a baby without any strings or attachments.
♦️ An unusual ghost story where a middle-aged man meets the father he never knew.
♦️ A memory tale where a man in his seventies happily recalls how he and his three school pals exacted poetic revenge on the Car-Washing Maniac of Number 43.
♦️ And a novella about what two adult siblings decide to do when their rich but seriously awful parents suddenly announce that they are going SKI-ing (Spending Kids’ Inheritance).

Paul A Mendelson has written eleven novels and has created several hit BBC sitcoms, including May to December and My Hero. His ITV drama starring Martin Clunes, Losing It, was much acclaimed.

This beautiful cover features spot UV, which is continued on the spine and back cover. 📕

A gripping crime novel that follows Detective Inspector Heppolette. In the midst of a school production of 'Romeo and Juliet' in Jersey, tragedy strikes when the actress playing Juliet dies on stage and Heppolette is put on the case. 🎭

As she delves into the case, Heppolette uncovers a world where drugs, s*x, and dysfunctional families mirror the dark themes of Shakespeare's play.

“Starts as a love story and turns into something far darker against a background of Shakespearean romance and a production of ‘Macbeth’ that ends with a mystery it takes a lifetime to solve. A gripping debut from a writer to look out for…” – Simon de Bruxelles, Journalist.

Invisibility – it’s a superpower, right? Well, that’s not quite the reality. 📗

All I want is to be like every other kid my age, but that’s not going to happen when people can hardly ever see me. I have dreams of my own that I want to achieve. I want to fall in love, have friends... I want to be seen.

This is my life, however. This is my reality – “The Invisible Boy”. It’s a curse.

When Zara Keff is evacuated from London to Cambridgeshire in 1940, her extended family goes along too. Zara relishes being in the thick of the local war effort. When tales of the suffering inflicted in occupied Europe begin to emerge, she is as horrified as any of her classmates. That horror is compounded by a shocking chance discovery, for Zara is not quite who she thinks she is.

A gripping historical novel that follows the journey of a Jewish family spanning the early 20th century to post-World War II Britain. Inspired by the author's own family heritage, particularly the wartime experience of Waxman’s mother.
