The city of Leicester is set to be awash with rainbow colours, joyful celebrations, and a powerful message of inclusivity and equality as the countdown to Leicester Pride 2024 officially begins.
Mark your calendars for the vibrant and much-anticipated event that will take place on Saturday, August 31st 2024.
Leicester Pride is an annual celebration of the LGBTQ community, embracing diversity and fostering unity and has become one of the UK’s biggest single-day, free of charge Pride event – a true example of an event created by the community, for the community.
This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever, featuring several exciting new changes to enhance the experience for all attendees. Notable updates for 2024 include a new 20-meter main stage, a 1000-capacity dance arena, additional toilets, and more bars to ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities comfortably.
Simon Harrison, Event Manager of Leicester Pride, shares his excitement:
“Leicester Pride has always been about bringing people together to celebrate love, acceptance, and the beauty of diversity.
This year, we are thrilled to present an event that not only entertains but also empowers and inspires.
We invite everyone to join us in making this year's Pride the most memorable yet."
The event is free to attend and celebrates equality and diversity in our community. Leicester Pride is a family event with entertainment and attractions suitable for all ages.
The event starts at 12 noon with a parade through the city centre – starting on Humberstone Gate due to on-going work at Orton Square - leading to the festival site on Abbey Park.
The main stage features live singers, dance acts, and cabaret from across the country, including the acclaimed Queen tribute act, ‘Now, I’m Here’ who will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Queen II tour, which was an unprecedented sell out phenomenon across the UK and USA. The set will be accompanied by a breathtaking firework display.
Curve’s future hit musical – and TikTok sensation, ‘SuperYou,’ will also take to the stage with its own blend of powerful, anthemic songs – sung by Six The Musical’s Vicki Manser - that will leave you uplifted.
The DJ tent showcases the best local DJs. Previous acts include Sam Bailey, Woody Cook, Blazing Squad, Lisa Lashes, Keiron Richardson, PJ Brennan, Diva Fever, Addict Dance, Miss Penny, Ms Marty, Thunderpussy, and many more.
But it’s not all about the entertainment; Leicester Pride organisers are keen to promote inclusivity and acceptance and will see/hear pro-footballer, Zander Murray, who is one of only a handful of out, pro-footballers in the world share his inspirational story on the main stage, as well as local trans ambassador and founder of Cool2BTrans, Katie Neeves.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of food and drink options and explore numerous market stalls. A selection of fairground rides and games will also be provided by Billy Bates & Sons fun fair. The celebration will close at 9pm.
The event is expected to be attended by more than 20,000, with more than 2,000 taking part in the parade through the city. Since 2009, Leicester Pride has grown from a small event based in the city to a full-scale festival at Abbey Park – with special support from Leicester City Council, and other sponsors - and is now one of the UK’s biggest, free-to-attend, single day Pride festivals.
