Clients include Bellowhead (Matachin), Dr Feelgood (25 years of Dr Feelgood), Coldcut (Let Us Play), Will Pound (A Cut Above) and the list goes on. A relaxed but highly efficient atmosphere situated in an idyllic rural location near Leamington Spa, with easy access to road and rail. Outdoor facilities include a large secure parking area. The studio itself comprises of a large, very well equipped c
ontrol room with three acoustically designed "live" areas, each having their own individual sound characteristic modelling. There is natural light throughout.
36 tie-lines link the live areas to the control room enabling us to record larger bands/musical and vocal ensembles.
12 headphone stations, situated throughout the live areas, allow up to 6 different headphone mix feeds from the control room. In short, each recording musician can play along with a mix specifically created for their 'listening whilst recording' needs. Our 'mike cupboard' contains over 30 'classic' microphones, including models from Neumann, Brauner, Calrec, Coles, AKG, Sennheiser, Rode and Shure. We also have 6 different, dedicated vocal microphones, as no two voices respond the same way. Back in the control room we use a 3GHz 8-core Apple Mac recording system running ProTools, Digital Performer and Bias Peak Pro. Our 32 channel Soundcraft Ghost mixing console has been modified to the highest specification by a console design wizard Ken Clegg (Ken worked on the early AMEK consoles with Rupert Neve). The 26 channels of PrismSound AD/DA converters used to capture the analogue signal from the live areas are thought to be the best available anywhere on the pro-audio market. They provide a very accurate and natural sounding audio; the perfect building blocks for any mix regardless of musical genre. In addition, the audio quality is 'upped again' with a selection of dedicated Avalon 'valve' and Calrec pre-amps that feed the PrismSound converters directly from the live areas. A number of musical instruments are available for use at no additional cost. They include a Sonor Delite Drum Kit, a beautiful acoustic Challen 988 Upright Piano (as used by at Abbey Road), a Yamaha Clavinova Electric Piano (weighted keyboard and midi) a Simon and Patrick electro-acoustic guitar and other instruments on request. Electric guitar rigs available for use include a Blackstar Series One 200 with 4x12 Blackstar Series One speaker cab and a Mesa Boogie studio 50x50 stereo power amp with a Rectifier preamp and two 1x12 Black Shadow speaker cabs. At Gighouse we can dramatically improve and enhance the audio quality of 'home' or 'recorded elsewhere' sound files/mixes in our mastering suite. The hardware based system uses equipment made by Avalon, PrismSound, Apogee, TC electronics and Genelec with fabulous results.
