Today, 20 years ago, I cycled through the cold, pouring rain along the Sint-Annastraat in Nijmegen, Netherlands, to sign the document that marked the administrative birth of Crossbill Guides. Nine months later, we had our first three guidebooks and called them Biebrza, Bialowieza and Coto Doรฑana.
In these 20 years, we made approximately 25 titles, over 50 prints and more than 100,000 copies sold and did numerous side projects. Our group started out with a handful of just graduated ecology students from Nijmegen university and we now work together with hundreds of people across the continent.
So thanks everyone who was and still is involved, specifically Alain, Albert C., Albert V., Alex, Andrรฉ, Anita, Anneke, Barbara, Bouke, Brian C., Brian R., Carsten, Cees, Chris, Constant, David, Dennis, Dirk, Dorrie, Elsbeth, Frank, Friso, Gert-Jan, Gino, Gisela, Graham, Guillaume, Harmen, Henk T., Henk S., Herman, Hienke, Horst, Ita, Jack, Joey, John, Johnathan, Joke, Kari, Kathrin, Kees, Kim, Lisa, Louis, Marijn B., Manuela, Marijn van L., Marjolein, Mart, Martin, Matti, Monique, Olaf, Oscar, Patrick, Paul K., Paul N., Peter, Pilar, Polihron, Riet, Rob, Sam, Sarah, Sean, Sibylle, Stefan, Stijn, Susie, Tanja, Theo, Tibor, Tom, Tony, Zsolt and all the photographers, experts readers and supporters, locally and abroad.
Over the last 20 years, many things have changed, but one thing remains a constant: that thrill of travelling to a new place and making the layout for new routes in a new book. We look forward many more years of Crossbill making.
