Lampeter Music Club Concert : A Celebration of Music From Afghanistan

Lampeter Music Club is hosting a unique musical event when Maestro Daud Khan, winner of the prestigious Agha Khan Music Award, and one of very few remaining disciples of Afghanistan’s music legend Ustad Mohammad Omar as well as the grand master of Indian music Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, will be playing the Rubab and singing Afghan ballads and songs rarely heard in the West.

Where? The Old Hall, UWTSD Lampeter Campus
When? Saturday 2nd March 2024, 7.30PM

Local writer Simone Mansell Broome will be reading from her newest poetry collection, ‘Bracing’ and from her 2023 memoir ‘Falafels, Some Frogs and a Ferret’ at The Mulberry Bush.

‘Bracing’ is Simone Mansell Broome’s ninth book, and is published by Conrad Press.

‘Falafels, Some Frogs and a Ferret’ explores in 21 chapters Simone’s early childhood in Tenby, through adolescence to later motherhood. It is published by Cambria Publishing.

News: New Wind Farm for the Cambrian Mountains

A new wind farm is being planned for an area in the Cambrian Mountains just to the north east of Ffarmers.

The wind farm will have 25 turbines with an installed capacity of up to 175 Megawatts, enough to power up to 115,000 homes.

Bryn Cadwgan Energy Park proposed by renewable energy company Galileo, is located on the Carmarthenshire / Ceredigion border, approximately 10km to the east of Lampeter, 10km to the south of Tregaron and 16km to the north of Llandovery.

Galileo are keen to work with the local community and as part of that they are running two informal consultation drop-in events in Llanddewi Brefi (8 November) and Pumsaint (9 November).

News - Cellan Sheep Farmer Film Wins Welsh BA(a)FTA 🐑🏆

A film about the life of a Cellan sheep farmer has won a Welsh BAFTA.

Heart Valley, released in 2022, took top spot in the Short Film category at the recent BAFTA Cymru awards.

Heart Valley was made by London-based film maker Christian Cargill after reading a Guardian article about the farmer by journalist Kiran Sidhu who moved to Cellan from London and made friends with Wilf.

The film follows the life of 74-year-old Wilf Davies who has been running his small sheep farm just outside Lampeter for most of his life.

The twenty minute film provides a fascinating insight into Wilf’s life tending his flock of 70 Plynlimon Speckle sheep.
