The McNeal Method

The McNeal Method Graphic design, website creation and marketing consultancy, at smaller prices for smaller businesses Hey, I get it! But who helps you. I mean ACTUALLY helps you?
(47)

If you’re reading this, then the chances are that you run or own a small business, probably by yourself, and you’re more than likely feeling a little lost, stuck or just a little bit ‘meh’ about the whole experience. Business is hard, and lonely, especially when you’re in it on your own. In the age of the entrepreneur/ infopreneur/ the-next-big-thing-preneur, there’s a lot of pressure to succeed,

to be self sufficient, to be awesome - like ALL the time, and frankly, it’s exhausting. You have to be all things to all people, have amazing products and services, provide service with a smile, look like you know what you’re doing, be confident when you’re not feeling it, and be positive when you’re feeling anything but. Not only that but you probably have the week’s meals to sort out, school runs, kids, pets .. and that’s before you even stop to consider the last time you had a day off. Yes, there may government enterprise schemes and one off local workshops but what about ongoing support and training, advice when you need it and relevant courses and workshops on the topics YOU need help with?? This is why The McNeal Method came into being. Affordable business coaching now exists! I’m a 40-something mama with a small business, wanting to help others through my experience. I don’t believe in paying for any help if you can get it for free, and when you can’t get it for free, it needs to be affordable, but still bring the results you need. No-one seemed to be providing that, which vexed me. Coaches were charging upwards of £100 an hour. Courses were hundreds of pounds. Network groups were hundreds of pounds a year. This - I thought - is not accessible or realistic for the people like us who have tiny businesses. I tell my clients, “if you can’t find a way, make one.” .. so that’s what I did, and here we are. Through my business support group, ‘The Business Owners Network’ I reach out to hundreds of business owners just like you, who find huge benefits in having somewhere they can be amongst others who they can chat with, laugh with, commiserate the bad days and celebrate the great days with. With my one to one coaching I provide affordable and practical hands on help for you and your business on any topic needed, to guide you to achieve the growth you need. From productivity to Pinterest, marketing to email campaigns, Facebook, Instagram and Advert Design, you’ll learn at the right pace for you. If there’s something you need help with and can’t find on the site, please feel free to email me!

You're wondering why you seem to be working harder and still getting nowhere.
You're putting in the hours and seeing no difference.

I hear you, and a lot of business owners feel exactly the same, but what's going wrong? What are you doing - or not doing - to cause this?
Read on to find out, and let me know in the comments if this resonates with you!

In my experience of helping hundreds of small businesses, I would say that you are probably spending more time IN your business that you are ON it.

Here's what I mean by that.

When you're working in your business, you are spending hours doing the day to day things; selling a product, carrying out a service, admin tasks, sorting deliveries, admin, invoicing, answering emails and making lists. All of these tasks need doing for sure, but do they grow your business? NO.

When you're working ON your business, you are creating fresh content to attract new clients and customers, you're making solid plans and goals, you're thinking ahead and enabling yourself to get there. You might research new offerings, go to a network meeting, spend time in social media platforms making new connections and expanding your reach. All of these things can help you to grow your business.

If you have someone - or even a team - to help you, then delegate the day to day stuff more so you can spend more time ON your business - simple!

BUT if you work alone and you're reading this thinking, '..But when am I supposed to find the time to do all this??', then you need to take a breath and start from the beginning. Take these steps:

1. Decide how you'd like to grow your business:

More clients / different and new products and services / buy new premises / franchise your business / sell things online / offer courses .. or whatever you want to achieve.

2. Find out what you need to do to that.

Do you need to watch tutorials, go on a course, find a mentor, hire shop staff, free up time to make new products etc. Schedule time for those things in your diary. One task a day every day no matter how small, is one more than you're doing right now!

3. Plan your time accordingly.

Be honest with yourself about how much time you have each day to do everything.
Be stricter with yourself when carrying out tasks. If you set aside 30 minutes to reply to emails, then stick to 30 minutes. Being stricter with your time will free up more of it, I promise you!

4. Think of yourself as a staff member!

It can be said that when you work for yourself, you can see time as a more fluid thing. You don't have to get a job done before the clock strikes 5 and your boss is breathing down your neck. You can always finish later.

If you had a staff member who was doing that job for you, and then they went off and spent an hour scrolling mindlessly on Facebook you wouldn't be happy at all! If you wouldn't have them doing it, why are you?!

5. Don't listen to your excuses!

You're tried, you did a lot yesterday, you're not in the mood, you're the boss so if you want to binge a box set instead of working then you're allowed right? Absolutely you are!
Just be aware that you are delaying your own goals and make yourself accountable.

Do I practise what I preach? Absolutely, every day.

I manage my own business full time, as well as helping to manage and develop multiple others, scheduling and creating content for over 40 small businesses from all over the world, while managing a home and a ten year old performer with a busier diary that I have!

It can be done and you CAN do this!!!!

Make 2025 the year that you take the bull by the horns and get out of your own way!

ahhh the dreaded Christmas Lights! 🌟

Running a small business can feel a little like dealing with those lights.
Your ideas can feel all tangled and stressful. You're not quite sure where to even begin. There are loose ends that don't seem to unravel, and when you try you become even more confused.

BUT keep trying, keep at it and very soon you'll be shining brightly and feeling very proud of what you've achieved!

What A Weekend! 😁

The first BIG Christmas Market at Cre8iv Little Theatre was a huge success, and it certainly was BIG! We had hundreds of local shoppers turn up, and our stallholders were super busy so thankyou to everyone who came and supported on the day!

I love organising events like these, creating opportunities for smaller businesses that are affordable and accessible, so watch out for more local events coming very soon!

Please, please, PLEASE support your local small businesses this Black Friday weekend!

There are hundreds of business owners out there who rely on your support and orders to keep their businesses alive, and the lead up to Christmas should be a busy time for them, but sadly many are really struggling and it's quiet out there.

Some businesses don't have bricks and mortar premises and rely on social media, so liking and sharing their posts can make the difference between them thriving or just surviving.

Some businesses have a shop but are bypassed for high street chain stores who don't really value your custom in the same way.

Costs are rising everywhere, people are busy, and you may not stop to think about the positive effect you could have on you local businesses, retailers and service providers. If you're looking for an unusual gift idea, the gift of an experience, a stocking filler, a voucher for a meal, a beauty salon, a massage, driving lessons - these are all things you can buy from local businesses, and you'll make a business owner -and your loved ones - very happy this Christmas!

I am practising what I preach. We have ordered a spa day from a luxury pen from , teachers gifts (and a couple for myself!) from Love Faith Hope Boutique, and theatre tickets from Cre8iv Little Theatre. I am visiting Christmas Markets this weekend to grab some more gifts, including this one at CRE8IV Little Theatre, https://www.facebook.com/events/43386891264241.

Don't be fooled into thinking that the high street stores are cheaper, as this really isn't always the case.

Please share this post far and wide, and encourage everyone to SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!!!!

I saw this trick last week, and loved it, so I thought I'd share it with you.
When you're writing a letter or email, how you start or end it can make all the difference. Capturing interest and ensuring people WANT to read on is key, and this could do the job nicely!
Let me know if you try it!

This week I'm focusing on last minute preparations for The BIG Christmas Market, which will be hosted at CRE8IV Little Theatre in Thornton this Sunday.
I've organised this as a fundraiser for CRE8IV Theatre Co's next show, The Sound Of Music, but also to help smaller businesses in the area too, to help them to boost sales over the festive period.
These businesses rely on local trade, and your support or sale means the world to them, so please try and come along if you can, we'd love to see you there!

How do you sign off .... ?

You probably send a fair few emails every day, but do you make the most of every one?
You'll think about the content of the actual email, but do you also think of it as a subtle opportunity to market yourself as well?

With the right tools you can make sure that when your contact opens your email, they see your branding, personality and style, which helps you to stick in their heads and reinforces other marketing that you do.

One way of of doing this for free, is with a carefully crafted email signature.
This is the bit that goes right at the end of the email, and include links, web addresses, as well as a logo and more.

In mine, I actually include my SWFT profile link as well, which I posted about a couple of days ago. You can include whatever you like on your email signature, and making it graphic rather than just words is so much more professional and memorable don't you think?

If you'd like a professional email signature creating for yourself or your business, I create these for just £15. Let me know if you'd like to grab this opportunity!

Are you geared up and ready for Black Friday??

Whether you're a retail or service based business, Black Friday is a day you should be taking advantage of! It's a day which may have originated overseas, but here in the UK, shoppers have come to expect that weekend of the year to bring epic sales and special offers, so if you're not getting involved then you could be missing out on potential new customers and bumper sales.

If you're a service based business like me, then you could offer a percentage off selected services, a special offer, or you could offer a new service launch on that day!

For retailers, it's a great time to focus on stock that you may want to sell before the next season arrives or even bring in new lines to sell especially for the Black Friday weekend.

Some choose to run their special offers just for the day on Friday, whilst other run a week long Winter sale, which starts on Black Friday. Bear in mind that Cyber Monday is also a 'thing' now, so many sales and offers will run Friday to Monday!

Do what works for you - you know your customers best!

When you are uo to your eyes in work, commitments and events, how do you stay organised? I'm asked this question a lot, so I thought I'd give you my top tips!

1. Plan your day!
Having a plan is absolutely essential ..and so is sticking to it!

2. Focus on one thing at a time. Overwhelm can set in very quickly without this step!

3. Don't get distracted! Only check your email or messages at set times throughout the day - don't get tempted to aimlessly scroll

4. If you work from home, treat your home like your office, and your work day like any other. Have a set lunchtime, and don't blur lines by popping a load in the washing machine in between calls!

5. Do the task you hate first - it's all easier from there!

6. Set yourself deadlines and stick to them!

7. Use a diary for everything, and keep it handy at all times!

8. Be strict with your time and don't try to people please by over promising things you can't complete.

9. Be honest with yourself and with your customers, if you can't do something or haven't got time then tell them!

10. GIve yourself some rewards for sticking to the above list! You're your own boss so make sure you're nice to work for!

I’ve got you. Let’s do this.

If you’re reading this, the chances are that you’re a business owner, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, fed up or just generally lost. I get it, because I’ve felt the way you feel right now. I tell my clients, “If you don’t change it, you choose it” and that’s what I did. These days I’m in my happy place, doing what I love best, and that wasn’t an accident. Situations and circumstances have conspired to bring me this point, and now I’m passing on the experience to others, to help them achieve their goals in business ownership.

My background and expertise lie in advertising, marketing, copy-writing and design, and I have worked for large media giants, and have also managed small businesses. My interests and speciality has always been in turning around struggling ventures, reinventing the wheel, and getting new projects off the ground. I’ve worked in corporate land, and I had enough of it. I took a career break whilst my daughter was born. As I was due to return to work, my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer, and I became her full time carer, but sadly she left us just three months later, when my daughter was just a year old. The shock of her death was such a blow to my dad, that his dementia accelerated and I was then a full time carer for him. My dad passed away twelve months later. I decided there and then that I wouldn’t sacrifice the quality of life with my family and be suck in a job I hated. I had the brains and the drive, so I was going to go it alone.

In 2015 I bought a franchise which would allow me to have a home based business. In 2016 I launched the Business Owners Network, to give business owners just like me a place to connect to others, and through that group I found my tribe. In just twelve months, the network had a following of over a thousand local business owners - people who felt alone in business, who believed they were too small to matter, too inexperienced to have an opinion, to insignificant to make a difference. They had experienced hardships, depression, redundancies and despair, but together we made each other stronger, supported and empowered. I still feel honoured every day that people want me to walk their path with them.

Fast forward to 2017, and my mentoring business was born, filling the gap in the market of supporting the tiny and very new businesses which struggle to find affordable and accessible help elsewhere. Through coaching and mentoring, educating, and connecting people to others in similar situations, I have helped hundreds of business owners and have had the privilege of working with some fantastic people. Currently, The McNeal Method is focusing on helping more business owners, those who don’t think they can afford or are worthy of a coach for their ‘little’ business. The difference between my approach and other coaches is that I will show you what to do, do it with you or do it for you - whatever suits you best.
