A few years ago, I had the absolute pleasure and pressure of flying the drone from the deck of the Kirkella to capture footage of the ship while in the middle of the North Sea. Some complications with compass calibrations on multiple drones led to the DJI Phantom 4 Pro being the day's saviour. A constant forward motion from the ship (13/14 Knotts) led to the drone clocking up some miles, but it also blasted through batteries quickly and had to frequently update the home point as we sailed away from the original home point. Also, slowing the boat down to 5 knots meant catching the drone on landing had to be achieved by matching the forward motion plus the wind factor with the drone's speed. A crash on catching while landing saw a new prop attached, and off we took again and got the job done. A totally awesome and memorable experience I'll never forget. #kirkella #fishingtrawler #fishingfactory #northsea #drone
