Here are some facts about the North Coast 500 (NC500) in Scotland:

Length
The NC500 is a 516-mile route that loops around the northern coast of Scotland.

Starting and ending point
The route begins and ends in Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands.

Highlights
The NC500 includes John o' Groats, the most northerly tip of the UK mainland, as well as Loch Ness, castles, villages, beaches, and mountains.

Best time to visit
Summer is the peak tourist season, with all attractions open and good weather. May and September can be milder and less busy, while winter can be clear if it's not too wet.

Things to do
Visit castles, hike the highlands, watch wildlife, try local food, or visit distilleries.

Difficulty
The Bealach Na Ba Pass is the steepest and most difficult part of the route.

When it opened
The NC500 was launched in 2015 by the Tourism Project Board.

Popularity
Now Travel Magazine named the NC500 one of the top five coastal routes in the world.

Hooray!!! The weather is getting better 🤞

Although we are fully booked for May school hols, it is not too late to book for earlier in May.

May is National Walking Month – and there is nowhere better to celebrate than Suffolk. The flowers are out in colourful bloom, the nightjars are chirring, days are long and pleasant, and the county’s Walking Festival takes place (May 11-26; suffolkwalkingfestival.co.uk). This venerable event is one of the UK’s most extensive hike-fests, and the 2024 programme includes dawn chorus strolls, walks and riverboat trips, as well as haiku-writing hikes, and ambles on Orford Ness.

The Suffolk Walking Festival is one of the country’s largest & longest running walking events.

November is a quieter time for us at Silverbird and so thank you Rick for covering for me in the Silverbird office for the past two weeks whilst I toured India. It is an extraordinary country and well worth a visit, but perhaps not surprisingly the one thing I didn’t spot was a Motorhome!
