🔨 Power tools at the ready! Our Art Department students have leveled up from set building to set decorating. Starting with a 70s council estate-inspired kitchen, they’ve taken it from design to build—complete with tile grouting! Next week, the transformation continues as they add all the grime and dirt to give it that authentic, lived-in look. Last week our Directing & Cinematography students had an incredible day of hands-on learning and exclusive industry insights with the help of @reddigitalcinema From mastering Red Media’s cutting-edge cameras to hearing from Oscar-winning DOP James Friend (All Quiet on the Western Front) and cinematographer Peter Marsden, this workshop was packed with inspiration. James shared jaw-dropping behind-the-scenes stories, including how he used a Red camera to capture a tank rolling over the lens during a VFX scene—proving innovation is key on set! Students also got practical experience framing shots, working with resolution, dynamic range, and colour science. Working from the iconic dinner party scene in You’ve Got Mail, each group took on different roles—from DOP and 1st AD to Gaffer, Sound, Script Supervisor, and Cast. They experienced the full filming process, diving into lighting, framing, and working with real-world time constraints. 🎬 Last week, Peter Dunne shared his expertise in film publicity and marketing with our Production Management students. Having worked on iconic films like American Beauty, Shrek, Saving Private Ryan, and Gladiator, Peter offered invaluable insights on how marketing can make or break a film. Though Marketing is a whole separate division and not the responsibility of Production Management, Peter’s session highlighted the importance of collaboration and understanding the bigger picture.
