The Smart Meter Agenda 2025 โ๏ธ
I had a Scottish Power engineer come out to my property to top up my (pay as you go) Gas meter on the 22nd of February. After 10 minutes of him pluging in his computer meter gadget, he said, that it had failed.
I said, "Ok, I will just have to loan money to top it up then". He replied saying, "You can't now because it's broken". Ehhhh๐ค
For 13 years I've never had an issue with my meter. No faults etc. But, after he f@cked with it, it's broken.๐๐ก
He then suggested I call Scottish Power to report it and ask for a replacement meter.
โ๏ธTHE START OF THE JOURNEY โ๏ธ
I called and reported the broken meter. They asked what kind of Meter it was, I told her, "it's a pay as you go meter".
They said they only have smart meters available, and it would be difficult to source a replacement (pay/Go) meter. I made it clear that I would only accept a Non Smart Meter.
She booked an engineer to come round 4 days later as an emergency/priority, as I have a child with special needs.
The engineer turns up on the 26th not knowing why he is there, asking questions ๐ I explained about the meter, and that I need a replacement for the one that broke.
He then wanted access to my electric cupboard, which I agreed. But, the only reason why he wanted to check it was to see if a Smart Meter Reciever could be fitted to my electric board.
I explained, No Smart Meter. He then exclaimed how difficult it would be to get one. That they are OUT OF STOCK, and that they are not manufactured anymore. He said for me to call Scottish Power again and rebook etc.
So, I called again. Spoke to a lovely lady, who took all the relevant information, listed it as an emergency/priority. She said it may take longer for an engineer to come out to forfill my request as they would have to source the replacement traditional meter. Ok cool. Appointment booked for the 5th of March.
The 5th of March came with an engineer at the door. Again, the engineer had no clue why he was there, and asked me what the issue was ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ WTF. "Your here to replace my broken meter with a Pay as you Go meter". "Ahhh, we can't do that. We can install a Smart Meter today but not a traditional P/G meter". I said no thank you. He proclaimed, that I should call Scottish Power again, and explain the situation, and have it listed as an emergency.
๐๐
errrmmm it is listed as such. It has been from the start. He then told me, "It is not". I told him he should call them as there is obviously a communication breakdown that is creating a problem. Clueless engineers. We exchanged the standard (F**k Off's and F**k you's), then he stormed off.
I called again minutes later. Explaining the situation to another lovely lady. 2 engineers, with no clue about the job, and trying to push a Smart Meter on me, which, I am vehemently against. She sympathised, listed it as the usual, booked it in for the 11th of March a week later. Also saying that she would supervise the job to make sure everything went ahead from behind the scenes, with a follow up call on the day.
โ๏ธ11TH OF MARCHโ๏ธ
11th of March came and nothing ๐คทโโ๏ธ NO engineer, NO call, NOTHING. Now, all this time I've been using the swimming pool and my Father's for showers/washing, I've been boiling water to do my dishes, and I could not have my children stay over as per usual because there is no hot water to keep them clean etc. It had caused so much disruption to my normal way of living. But ok, I'm not a weak modern human, I can deal with it no probs.
I called again, keeping my cool. They then told me that engineers can ignore a job if they cannot get stock, strange ๐ค, why not call me, as they are supposed to, and let me know. Finally, I launched a complaint.
โ๏ธThe first engineer broke my meter
โ๏ธThe 2nd engineer didn't know why he was there, and tried to push the S/M
โ๏ธ3rd engineer didn't know why he was there, and tried to push the S/M
โ๏ธ 4th engineer never even turned up atall with no communication
Complaint launched.
On the 12th of March I was called by the complaints department to take details, which they did not have. I'm use to this by now, and I'm a zen master ๐ ok, complaint relaunched again ๐ค๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐๐.
13th of March, I was called by the complaints specialists. He said there are no traditional Pay as you Go Meters. I told him there is. That if you live in a rural area that has little or no signal, a Smart Meter can not be used. It's listed on the Scottish Power Website. So there are P/G meters, but, the agenda is to push S/M onto the public by 2025. I told him that the engineer broke my working meter, probably on purpose, so to replace it with a S/M.
We debated for a bit, and he said they could install a traditional meter, but NOT a P/G meter,, but a direct debit monthly payment meter.
NOT HAPPY, but desperate, so I finally accepted. He said Scottish Power owed him a favour, and that he would call back shortly. He called back as promised, and said that he had an argument with SP, as they tried to pawn me off for another few days to a week. That he forced them to take action that day, also, that it is a (PAY AS YOU GO METER). I'm confused, but sounds good to me. He asked for the complaint to be dropped, (probably to save their ass from getting sued) I said, "along as the job is done I'm happy". Within 4 hrs, 3 engineers turn up at my door, with a replacement meter, P/G.
๐ซ The engineers told me that they have hundreds of these meters, that they install them daily, and that many people are swapping out the Smart Meters as they are extremely faulty.
I had to hold out a month, got told lies, which I new was lies. I rejected the push, and put up with all the bulls**t. ONLY once I launched a complaint they pulled out the goods.
