Our Story

PCR extra was originally known as ‘Peterborough Youth Radio’ and began producing quality radio to the Peterborough region in July 2012 with youth presenters generally at the helm. Naturally, the assumption would be that our listeners would all prove to be of the younger generation and their musical choices befitting their genre type, but this is not the case. Each and every presenter had their very own style and cater for a wide range of tastes - not just youth music but cultural, topical and satirical shows that invite audiences from all ages of the spectrum. So no, PYR was and is not just a youth radio station but indeed a station that encourages local people of all ages in getting involve with professional experienced radio producers and presenters whom encourage learning skills likely to be found in major radio stations across the country.
So how do we achieve this? Well, the answer is simple - through benefactors and sponsors. The kindness and generosity of our benefactors helps us to continue the advancement of the station and indeed the learning skills our aspiring young and old presenters will require whilst our sponsors allow us as a station to continue running through a non-profit status. Yes! Nobody is paid! Not even the professionals behind the scenes and those passing on their skills. And we can only do this through your continued, and extremely valued, support.
Who will be the next Chris Moyles or Nick Grimshaw? Well wouldn't it make you proud to think it were your son, daughter, dad or mum hosting the nations favourite radio show? And all as the result of starting at regional level on PCR extra?
