It is with a very heavy heart that we are sharing the sad news that our valued presenter, friend and member of the Sangam family took his last breath in the early hours of the morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. As a sign of respect, today radio sangam will run back to back with no presenters. The funeral prayers will be carried out this afternoon. Restaurateur who invented 'naan tree' dies aged 56

A businessman who founded a chain of curry restaurants and is said to have invented the 'hanging naan' has died aged 56.

Shabir Hussain founded Akbar's restaurant in Bradford in 1995, before later expanding to cities including Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow and Birmingham.

Following the announcement of his death, Akbar's said all its restaurants would be closed on Wednesday and Thursday as a result.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shabir Hussain, founder of Akbar's Restaurant Group," the chain posted on social media.

"All restaurants will now be closed and will reopen on Friday at 17:00 BST.

"Please remember Shabir Hussain in your prayers. May Allah (SWT) grant him the highest rank in Jannah and bring peace and strength to his family during this difficult time."

One of our much loved presenters has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. We are very much grateful for the support of the staff from Kirkwood Hospice for support that they are offering the family. I am being imprisoned for the day and need to raise bail to help raise funds for the hospice. Any support large or small will be appreciated. There is a fundraising page for the hospice. The Radio Sangam stage is set and we are looking forward to welcoming all the new students to The University of Huddersfield. It’s going to be a packed two days of performances for all to enjoy. We’ve also been told that there’s going to be free pizza, popcorn and candy floss. What’s not to like.
