Ahh flip!

Rotary Club of Horsham annual Pancake Races have sadly been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

After 11 years of successful Races raising £1000’s of pounds for local charities, Horsham Rotary Club feel that the event has now run its course. They will be looking for ways to replace this popular event going forward.

In the meantime, they are ploughing their efforts fully into the Centenary Funday which will be held in Horsham Park on 9th July.

Horsham Sports Club Chairman Chris Wassell Stands Down
by Martin Read

After unenthusiastically accepting popular Chairman Chris Wassell’s
resignation at their AGM, Horsham Sports Club rightly celebrated his achievements at a reception attended by many members, and business associates, thanking Chris for his 13 years of dedicated, unstinting service, Chris “Shaka” Shambrook saying: “Chris has been a great boss. His wise Counsel, steady hand and quiet modesty will be sorely missed. Thank, you Chris for installing me here, and please don’t be a stranger.”

During Wassell’s tenure, the Cricketfield Road club, the home of Horsham Hockey, has been transformed into a substantial thriving hub of community activity, with outstanding cricket, squash, and tennis facilities, plus social activities, including, in addition to top class representative sport, iconic fireworks and music events, and a much-appreciated venue for the district’s Business Networking Group

In his final Chairman’s report Wassell said: “I have reluctantly decided to call it a day. There is never a good time, but I feel the time is right and that new, younger and more vigorous blood is required to take HSC forwards. The support I have received from all members of the Management Committee, past and present, has been magnificent, and appreciated beyond words. Thanks also to the Section Chairmen and their committees who work so hard in the background to provide the organisation that allows the sports to be run in a professional and friendly way that makes the place so welcoming.”

New HSC Chairman Kevin Handley told us: “Chris is a very hard act to follow, but I will do my best to build on his legacy and I know that I can rely on the same wonderful backing that he’s had.”

Horsham Venue Welcomes Official Liverpool
Supporters Club
By Russell Bedford (Russ with the sport)

Following the shock closure of The REC Rooms and The Clubhouse Bar & Grill, the Horsham
branch of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club were quick to go on the hunt for a new venue
that they could enjoy watching the redmen in a fan friendly environment.

Looking to build on the success of their initial seasons at The Clubhouse, The Sussex Kop
wanted to ensure that fans of the Anfield club could continue banging the drums, singing the
songs and enjoying a matchday atmosphere when they couldn’t get to games themselves.

A tireless search resulted in the events team selecting the popular Holbrook Club on North
Heath Lane in Horsham. Sourcing a venue that boasted big screens, loud sound and great
drinks options was high on the agenda and when The Holbrook Club became an option, the
supporters club were delighted to snap up the opportunity. Head of the event team Michael
Jacobs said, “We are so excited to be at such a great venue. With superb sound and visuals
and plenty of screens we cannot wait for our members to enjoy match days here. It’ll create a
fantastic viewing experience, a great warm welcome and a chance to meet fellow reds in a
friendly, passionate environment.”

With the first game in the new venue taking place on Saturday as Liverpool face Chelsea, the
Sussex Kop are hoping to welcome new faces as well as the regulars that often filled The
Clubhouse as Liverpool competed in domestic and European competition. Michael says, “We
have had some incredible events over the seasons, sometimes with 300 people in attendance!
It really makes for a great experience for both fans of all ages. We fill the venue with flags and
banners, get the songs going and sometimes the big drum. We don't expect 300 on Saturday for
the 1230pm game but we would love to see as many reds as possible.”

It isn’t just watching the matches though. On some matchdays the supporters club have raised
funds by allowing fans to get up close and personal with the glorious set of trophies Liverpool have been fortunate enough to have won over the years. Furthermore, attending games at the venue regularly can put you in a position to get tickets to Anfield too. A dream many reds don't
get to realise as often as they would like but one the supporters club can help make happen.
If you are a Liverpool fan and want to be part of this new adventure for The Sussex Kop, join
their page to find out more! www.facebook.com/groups/thesussexkop

Horsham Rugby Club U16 Girls on the road to become National Champions

Horsham Rugby U16 Girls, the current Regional Champions are aiming for one better this year by becoming the National Champions.

In the pool stages they have convincingly beaten Guildfordians, Hove and Havant without conceding a single point which is a great testament to the girls and the coaching staff.
They are in to the last 16 of the National Competition and face a tough fixture away to Old Reigations on Sunday 22nd January and are confident that their current form of 28 straight wins will see them through to the next round.

Good luck girls 💚🤍
