The Gurkha Durbar, established in 2005 , is a firm favourite not only with the community of Grayshott in Hampshire but from customers the surrounding areas and further such as Guildford & Portsmouth .The restaurant's loyal following can be attributed to some exceptional Nepalese cuisine and a wonderfully friendly welcome. The restaurant is owned by Major Mani Kumar Rai, MBE,DL (now

retired) of the Royal Gurkha Rifles, and his wife Sudha. Both hosts are an integral part of the Grayshott community, seem to know absolutely everyone and succeed in making their guests feel very at home. The restaurant here is simply decorated, airy and open, leaving the service and the food to shine. Nepalese cuisine is influenced by the country's geographic position, sandwiched between China and India. Whilst the menu at The Gurkha Durbar isn't as easy to navigate as your usual Chinese or Indian restaurant menu, diners are sure to be rewarded by finding something new and interesting to waken up their tastebuds. Traditional momo (Nepalese dumplings) are a highlight of the starter menu while Gurkha Khasi, lamb cooked in the clay oven and served with Himalayan herbs or Kathmandu Kukhura, a tandoori chicken dish, make for exciting main courses. There is a huge selection of seafood, chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes on the menu. Gurkha beer and Kathmandu beer will wash it all down nicely while a shot of Nepalese rum will act as a lovely, warming digestif. The Gurkha Durbar is open every day for lunch (except Monday) and dinner. Grayshott is surrounded by beautiful National Trust countryside. The village is also home to a traditional country pub, a working pottery and plenty of free parking spaces. For authentic Nepalese cuisine in the Grayshott area, The Gurkha Durbar should certainly be on everyone's list. Delicious authentic Nepalese curry and other food: 97 dishes on offer and so full of flavour.... but it doesn't sit heavy in the stomach! Recommended by the Telegraph for a unique dining experience, on Tripadvisor as well as Google and Facebook ! Reasonably priced and with helpful and friendly service. Simply the best Restaurant in the area. Check out the Tripadvisor reviews and the page. Takeaways and delivery within a 3-mile radius. Private functions, outside catering and gift vouchers also available. Don't hesitate to get in touch and book a table.

Have you heard about the upcoming war epic which tells the story of Gurkhas during the Malayan Emergency?

Gurkha Warrior tells the story of Corporal Birkha Bahadur who’s platoon is scattered in the depths of the Malayan Jungles after a surprise attack by enemy forces, he must draw on his skills and expertise in jungle warfare to reassemble his men and take down the enemy.

Directed by ex-Gurkha Milan Chams (intake1998) and starring ex-Gurkha, Ritesh Chams (intake 2004), the film is set to have its international premiere in Leicester Square, London, 10 September.

Lead actor Ritesh Chams, said; “The Gurkha Museum is home to us, where the history of Gurkhas collected and presented. ‘Gurkha Warrior’ is a film of one of the many untold stories of Gurkhas, and the stories can be found from the Museum. The Gurkha Museum is one of the charities ‘Gurkha Warrior’ is supporting. Both the Museum and the film promote and celebrate the contributions that Gurkha soldiers have made to Britain in the past, today and will continue to do so in the future."
