Worlds of Words Badass copywriter & translator
http://www.worldsofwords.com Hi, I’m Natali…

…a UK-based English into Greek marketing translator originally from Athens, Greece.

After trying my hand at different services (teaching, subtitling, transcription, research, building glossaries, market research etc.) I came across one service that’s very similar to translation and can be done using our existing skills: content writing. I’ve since then written content for several international brands, agencies, websites, print publications and in-flight magazines (my favourite re

ading pastime on that super long-haul flight…). In 2020, I created a BETA course on content writing for the general public which proved to be quite popular among translators. This led me to create a course specifically for translators who want to pivot to this service and have since then managed to help over 200 colleagues break into content writing. In 2020 & 2021, I was named a Top 50 Localization Influencer by Nimdzi Insights and I have a slight suspicion that this might have something to do with this course. 😊

Just a short message to let you know that I've decided to permanently close my travel writing course "Travel Writing For Magazines" at the end of the year...

The reason for this is that I want to focus on other projects and I can't keep up on top of everything.

But before I say good-bye to this project, I want to offer you a small Christmas gift, in case you were interested; a full 25% OFF with voucher TRAVELS25.

The course focuses on:

-Spotting travel trends
-Honing a unique-to-you travel writing niche
-Interviewing experts (I'd like to see ChatGPT doing that!)
-Contacting editors and crafting pitches
-Going on press trips
-Coming up with dozens of article ideas from just one trip
-Exploring lesser-known magazines and writing markets..and more

Plus, you also get your own black book of inflight magazine editor contacts, which is due to be updated again in January.

This is one space, I've found, where A.I. and ChatGPT have not taken over yet. At least, I haven't heard of any magazines employing ChatGPT to write their articles yet.

And all that, for just 45.00 USD with voucher TRAVELS25.

On the 1st of January, I will permanently close this course to focus on other things, but you will continue to have indefinite access to it. It just won't be available for anyone else anymore.

Are you looking to start (or add) something new to your career in 2025?

Might this be it?

It looks so good, I would gladly take it with me to the sauna…if only it came in laminated form.

I first discovered Antti Tuomainen five or six years ago, when I read “The Man Who Died”.

Although I was looking for the usual crime book to read after my trip to Helsinki, I was equally intrigued by the fact that this was marketed as a humorous crime book.

I mean, how do you even reconcile the two?

And is there such a thing as Finnish humour?

Aren’t Finns supposed to be monosyllabic, anyway?

Well, it turns out that there is such a thing as Finnish sarcasm, and I am so glad this new book is following in the same vein because we are in for a treat 😊

Kiitos Antti.

I am going to be in Krakow for a few days next week, but this is not going to be my first time in Poland. I love the people, the culture, and the food….not to mention the ‘cryptic’ language, so I keep on coming back. This is going to be my third time, actually.

(You are a superhero, in my eyes, if you speak Polish. I say the same thing about Hungarian, by the way.)

The first time I travelled to Poland, some 11+ years ago, I went to Warsaw for a journalism project on behalf of . I wrote about Polish girls getting into coding and all the Polish women-led startups that have come from there.

Later, I was happy to find out that my story had made it to Cafebabel’s Top 15 feature stories in 15 years. They even printed a nice hardback to celebrate.

On a totally unrelated note, I would like to read some (translated) Polish crime fiction. Do you have any names of authors to suggest to me? Thank you!

Oh, and fingers crossed, I get to meet Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz, this time!

Asterix and Obelix are 65 years old!

Did you ever read Asterix as a child?

I am more of a Tintin fan, to be honest, due to the fact that my mum grew up in the ex-Belgian Congo.

Nevertheless, with 40 official albums, 400 million copies and over 100 translated languages, the Asterix comic book series is a bit of a cultural phenomenon, wouldn’t you say?

Earlier this year, I was asked to translate 16 new Asterix characters into Greek for a Netflix project that’s coming out next year. I can’t wait to see what they did with my creative suggestions and/or how many of these names they'll end up keeping.

But for now, I’d like to share with you my latest Babbel article on the Asterix and Obelix phenomenon, their 65 years, and all the celebrations taking place this month.

Of course, I could not NOT dedicate a paragraph to the amazing work of translators the world over who brought this much-loved Gaulish duo to our homes and French classes.
