POLLUTION INCIDENT 🚨 | Significant pollution incident reported on the River Wye with huge oil / fuel spill.
We’ve seen several reports of a pollution incident ongoing at Hereford and downstream on the River Wye.
We understand the Environment Agency are investigating.
The following has been reported locally in the last 48 hours.
Diesel, oil or kerosene appear to be coming from a concrete culvert and ditch entering the River Wye tracing back to Hereford
According to reports, the full width of the river is now blanket-covered in pollution (bank to bank) extending from The Bunch of Carrots downstream as far as Wilton Bridge at Ross-on-Wye - this is a distance of more than 23 miles along the river course.
Environment Agency are on-site trying to contain the pollution spill of what is believed to be diesel, kerosene or another fuel-oil.
It may be worth keeping dogs and livestock out of the water and refrain from angling, paddle boarding or canoeing until further official notice from Herefordshire Council.

Please use the Rotherwas Access Road instead. We’ve already had a reports of cars struggling and a collision near the flood.

DEER RESCUE 🦌 | It’s more than just fires for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s superb team.
Last week, a lady hit a deer on the Hereford to Worcester Road, a short distance from her home. Fearing the worst, the lady and her daughter slowly drove home in a state of shock.
When arriving home, they noticed that the deer was under the bonnet of the car….. and alive!
They called fire crews who safely released the deer back into the wild after it was checked over for injuries. 👏

SANTA BIKE RIDE 🎅 | A Santa Bike Ride passed through Hereford this lunchtime, before arriving at Hereford County Hospital at around midday.
It was a spectacular sight!
Around a hundred bikes took part, with presents being delivered to the Children’s Ward.
