Here's a strategy: Next time you receive a rave review, pick a standout quote and overlay it on a relevant image. This could be a picture of the part of your property they loved most or even a simple, eye-catching graphic. ๐Ÿ“ธ

It's widely accepted that for maximum impact we should be posting as these numbers begin to rise. But remember, it's not just about posting and disappearing.

Engaging with your followers is crucial. Show them some love, let them know they're seen and they're heard. โค๏ธ

The best time to post? When it suits you: the Host!

As a Guest House Owner, Father, Son, Husband, Instagram Coach and RAF Reservist, I've learned to fit Instagram into my busy schedule, not the other way around.

I've found a rhythm that works for me: I post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:45 am. This schedule allows me to engage on the platform around the time my post goes out, also showing the algorithm I'm active and not just 'posting & ghosting.'

This rhythm might not be perfectly optimal for Reach, Likes, Comments, Saves or Shares... but it's optimal for me: as I stroll home from the school run, I can engage on the platform as my content goes out... and by the time I'm home, I'm pretty much done ๐Ÿค—

Remember, the marginal gains from selective posting times only make a significant difference when your following is huge. So, find a schedule that works for you and stick to it. Consistency is king! ๐Ÿ‘‘

Way back when... I tried to follow the advice of Instagram 'gurus.' They said post every day, create 3 reels per week, share at least 5 stories daily.

๐Ÿ˜ฏ 2 months later I had to stop.

Juggling my Guest House with such a demanding content schedule left me overwhelmed, burnt out & lying awake at night worrying that I had no content planned for the next day. ๐Ÿ˜“

Hereโ€™s what I learned from the experience:

WHAT NOT TO DO:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Don't blindly follow the 'gurus' advice.
๐Ÿ‘‰ For Instagram gurus, content creation is their bread & butter. They have teams of graphic designers, copywriters, schedulers, engagement experts, content strategists, sales experts & professional marketeers behind them.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Their strategies didn't fit my reality as a busy Guest House owner โ€“ for me, they werenโ€™t sustainable.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Don't lose yourself in the pursuit of likes and follows.

So, I walked away. Over Christmas 2020, I just turned my back on it... almost for good. 6 weeks later, I came back with a PLAN:

1๏ธโƒฃ 3 posts/week for consistency and quality.
2๏ธโƒฃ Post with purposeโ€ฆ always giving value to my ideal guest.
3๏ธโƒฃ Treat my Business Account as a Marketing Platform. Marketing only, not personal updates.
4๏ธโƒฃ Focus exclusively on my Ideal Guest/Avatar. Make them feel seen, heard, understood, and served.
5๏ธโƒฃ Ask for something in return for this value using a simple CTA.

Within a month, my followers had more than doubled, inquiries came in through my direct messages, and my reach grew exponentially. ๐Ÿ’ช

Today, with just 2 posts/week, over 30% of traffic to my Guest House website comes from Instagram.

Not in a "Oh, look at me" way. I was moving into a space that was literally extra-ordinary.

Had that shift in mindset not happened... The Social Media Hotelier simply would not exist.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Let's chat about something I encounter often: 'Follow for Follow?' DMs from fellow Hosts almost every day.

๐Ÿ™ˆ Less frequently but regularly nonetheless: "Have you any advice on using a Giveaway to grow Followers?"

๐Ÿ˜ฎ And just recently, a potential client decided not to employ my 1:1 Coaching services because they thought my follower count wasn't 'impressive' enough to justify my expertise.

โœŒ๏ธ I need to flip the script:
In this digital era, it's easy to get swept away by the numbers game.

But let me tell you this: I'd rather have a community of 500 genuinely interested followers and >30% of website visits coming from Instagram... than 5,000 followers with no one visiting my booking website.

When you're marketing an Accommodation Business on Instagram chasing followers can lead to the creation of a disinterested audience.

Instead strive for an engaged community genuinely interested in your services.
