I had no idea how difficult it would be to work around a baby before I had a baby. I don’t think anyone ever does. Now I’m speaking as a Mother of a 7 and a half month old, I feel I can talk with some clarity.

It feels like we are all searching for that seemingly unattainable work-life balance, but for the working Mum, can it really be achieved? I wouldn’t say I’m there yet, but these tips certainly helped.

Pick the right social media channel!

A scattergun approach on social media is never effective.
Putting your business on every social media channel will likely not provide the results you need, it will probably just waste resources that would be better spent elsewhere. Instead, I’d advise you focus your energy on one to two social media channels at the beginning stages and then possibly two to three at a later date should you have the capacity.

While, on the face of it, they may seem similar, each social media channel has its own purpose and is for something different, with a different tone. Some of these channels might be completely wrong for your brand.

For example, if you are a boutique jewellery shop then Instagram and Pinterest are probably the perfect place for you. This is because they are very image-focused channels that you can fill up with beautiful shots of your product for posts. Plus people are actively searching for you on this platform.

By contrast, if you’re a company providing financial advice to other businesses, LinkedIn would be a perfect medium because posts on the site are business-focused and it generally contains B2B content.

So, do your research and have a think about what channels will work best for you.

You can use your promotional skills in your ads and on your website. Try and limit the sales type posts when it comes to social media.
According to the Sprout Social, 57.5% of social media users said posting too many promotions was the most annoying action from brands.

Instead, highlight your brand values, identify your audiences and create a space that is unique to your company.

TIP TUESDAY - Engage, inform, and provide useful information to your followers.

As well as sharing your own content, think about sharing other people's too.

Make sure all content is in keeping with your brand of course, but by sharing other's content and tagging them, you’ll show up in their news feeds too! This will increase your reach and quite often, people will even return the favour and share your posts to their followers too (if they're of value of course)

And jokes and memes get shared wayyyy more on social media than anything serious, so it's beneficial to your brand for you to inject a bit of humour into your social media marketing. Not only does humour get you more attention, it also gives you a chance to show off a bit of your personality and the human side of your brand. In February this year after Kylie Jenner tweeted “soo does anyone else not open Snapchat any more? Or is it just me . . . ugh this is so sad”, Snapchat lost over $1 billion in revenue. That just goes to show how important social media influencers are in whether brands today succeed or fail.

That's not to say that any influencer will do. When you're thinking about utilising one to promote your brand, think long and hard about whether they are the right face for your company. Are their followers your target market? And are they a legitimate influencer, or have they paid for followers? (A good way to tell if they have is to check the levels of engagement against their following, if they have low engagement but a lot of followers, they've probably paid for a boost) Do their values match your company's?

They're lucky they have cornered the market so successfully, because nine out of ten millennials state that social media availability affects their decision to go with a certain brand. This enormously powerful installation, fixed on our Bethnal Green warehouse, 'Life Inside', has been completed! Created by one of our incredibly talented guardians.

We commissioned this piece to exhibit the PGP ethos of celebrating the life and community that springs up inside our - often seemingly derelict - buildings. Our Bethnal Green warehouse is one of our most unique spaces, with a fascinating community of guardians from a range of diverse industries such as photographers, artists and other creatives. So it was the perfect home for this stunning mural.

I am a London-based social media consultant offering creative and effective social media support for small businesses and entrepreneurs. I’m passionate about helping you and your brand stand out from the social crowd, with the goal of increasing brand awareness, engagement and demand for your services, with a very genuine and personal approach.

Having a strong background working for prolific brands such as American Express, Relais & Châteaux and The Lifestyle Agency, I have first-hand experience of the impact social media has on your business today. My journey has led me away from working for very large corporations and towards my passion which is a focus on SME’s and entrepreneurs. Being a small business myself, I am keen to support the independents of the world with my bespoke service, dedicated to highlighting the personality behind the brand.
