Promoting an event? Read this before you post another poster!
Whether you’re running a music festival, book talk, yoga retreat, or local fair, social media can be your biggest asset—or your biggest time-waster if used the wrong way.
I’ve seen too many amazing events miss their full potential because they fell into one (or all!) of these common traps.
❌ Leaving it too late
People need time to get excited, book tickets, invite friends, and arrange childcare! Start promoting at least 6 weeks out—and build momentum in phases.
❌ Relying on just your poster
Posters are useful—but not designed for Instagram. Break your event info into a series of posts that introduce your lineup, location, vibe, food trucks, sponsors, community, and more.
❌ Only selling, never storytelling
If all you’re saying is “Buy now!” your audience will scroll on by. Mix in behind-the-scenes prep, interviews, highlights from past years, testimonials, throwbacks, polls—get creative and get people involved.
❌ Forgetting who you are talking to
Your audience want to know what's in it for THEM. You might know you've got a top class line up, but your audience want to know what attending your event will make them feel.
❌And lastly, posting for the sake of it.
Each post should have a goal - what are you trying to achieve? It's not always about posting MORE, it's about posting smarter.
The best events create a buzz before the gates open.
Want help doing that on your feed? I work with event organisers across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent, and beyond to make their socials work smarter—not harder.
