Head to the link in our bio to read the latest Coldhouse Journal, where Creative Director Emma Crome shares her thoughts on storytelling through branded content.
Reflecting on 2023, we have come to realise that although our work has taken us to some wild and wonderful places, many of the stories we have shared this year have been about home, community, and a sense of belonging, either physical or emotional.
Home doesn’t have to be a physical place; it can be a state of mind, a feeling or a memory, a fleeting or deep-rooted connection, a movement, or a loved one.
This year, these themes have truly emphasised the importance of kinship and the power of amplifying voices through film, at a time when the world is a particularly tumultuous and bewildering place.
We are particularly grateful for our community of friends and colleagues who have let us in and collaborated with us over the last 12 months; our successes have been thanks to the hard work and dedication of a collective of incredible humans and their insatiable appetite for storytelling, carrying heavy bags (and sometimes each other) up mountains, or spending hours and hours in the edit cave.
Pathways through our natural spaces lead us to many junctions where we stop to question, ‘Which way now?’ We hope any crossroads you find yourselves at in 2024 leads you home, in whatever form it takes.
Happy New Year!
Love, Coldhouse

In August, our small crew shadowed this year's Further Perseverance race, capturing the endurance and challenges faced by the riders over four intense days. This reel for @pertexfabric is packed with intense moments, showing the highs and lows of the event.

Giving Tuesday
At Coldhouse we've been proud 1% for the Planet partners for years now. Our partnership with Moors for the Future has transcended just a cash donation. We have a personal, close working relationship with the team at Moors For The Future, and we've worked with them to produce films and photos, and we've trained their communications team in filmmaking to help tell their own stories.
But what many people don't seem to know is that you can give 1% as an individual, rather than just as a business. You can engage directly with a cause that means something to you personally, and engage with an incredible network of like minded people and companies who believe the same things as you. Our partnership with 1% for the Planet has given us an amazing opportunity to be held accountable to a charitable financial commitment, but has also brought us so much more than that.
If you feel like you're in a position to donate 1% of your income to a cause that means something to you, then feel free to get in touch with us and we can point you in the right direction.

The Last English Poacher
We are excited to announce that we are releasing our first ever independent documentary film ‘The Last English Poacher’ to view on Vimeo On Demand.
To celebrate the launch, Coldhouse and director and host of The Adventure Podcast Matt Pycroft is hosting an exclusive online live stream screening of the film and a Q&A with the film's directors Emma Crome and Peter Emery on Tuesday 14th June at 7pm. This event is a must for anyone interested in the environment, rural history and the process of documentary film making.
Tickets will be £3.00 with all revenue going to support Coldhouses’ 1% for the Planet partner Moors for the Future, who are working to restore and protect the uplands of the Pennines and the Peak District. After the event, all attendees will receive a downloadable link to the film, and it will then be available via Vimeo for £1.99 - again with all revenue from sales going to Moors For The Future Partnership.
Attendees will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a copy of John F MacDonald's book ‘The Last English Poachers’ which documents the life of Bob and Brian Tovey.
The Last English Poacher’ recently won the Community and Culture Award at Kendal Mountain Festival, and was described by the judges as ‘an elegiac film that quietly but clearly raises significant issues around land ownership and access, the undermining of rural communities, the passing of older ways of life and the relationship between man and nature’.
Watch a good film and support a good cause on Tuesday 14th June at 7pm! We look forward to seeing you there.

As a part of our 1% for the Planet contribution to Moors for the Future, Coldhouse created a short video exploring the beautiful sphagnum moss that is crucial to protecting the vulnerable and oh-so-important carbon stored away in the peatlands of the Peak District and the Pennines.
Ryan Goff and Emma Crome used a telescopic macro lens to get up close and personal with the moss and underworld of Burbage Moor, just a stone's throw from our studio. These tiny rainforests are right under our feet in one of the most popular National Parks in the world. Moors for the Future are working hard to restore and protect these fragile ecosystems that provide us with clean water, wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration and flood mitigation.
Have you considered joining 1% for the Planet? It doesn’t matter whether you’re a huge corporation, a member of staff for a small company or a sole trader.
We’re all ears if you want to know more about the movement. 👂

Earlier this summer, Coldhouse spent 10 days in north west Scotland shooting for YETI’s Highland Olive Colour Story series.
Usually you’ll find the Coldhouse team on the high ridges and summits of the Scottish Munros, but this time we were deep down among the lochs and rivers of Assynt. Documenting fly fishing guide Corin Smith, we traced the path of the elusive brown trout along the River Kirkaig below the mighty Suilven, and by boat negotiated the waters of Loch Druim Suardalain.
In this short film, Corin tells the story of his connection with the landscape he calls home, the Scottish Highlands.

Episode 2 - Glyderau - Winter Run
Almost as many visitors come to Cwm Idwal and the Glyderau as those who swarm Snowdon’s top. From geography field trippers to adventurous day hikers, in summer conditions these mountains are a scramblers paradise.
The plateau of the high Glyderau is a jenga-rubble of upturned spikes, complex and varied rock types formed while protruding from ice-sheets and weather blasted by an Arctic climate for aeons.
Castell y Gwynt, the Castle of the Winds, caps this area as a crown of thorns, but smaller rock-porcupines proliferate. “It’s iconic isn’t it? You know you’re up there. It’s like very few places. It has this looming oppressiveness, so you really feel quite small”. Running here in winter is an acquired taste, a sensory challenge not to be underestimated for the risks of a fall on icy rock.
Even though Sarah Ridgway regards these mountains as home ground, she accepts this is not the time or the place for a spill, it wouldn’t do to be static here for very long. “You’ve gotta be really careful because some areas get so badly iced up, or have a hoar crust, and it’s just treacherous”. But the otherworldly atmosphere of this moonscape remains such a lure that she runs the journey direct from her home even in the depths of winter.

Grangers have been making environmentally-friendly, premium aftercare products for outdoor clothing and equipment since 1937. As a part of a branding and website refresh, Grangers created a roster of brand ambassadors that live and breathe the outdoors.
To support their brand story and launch their ambassador campaign, we worked with Grangers to develop a suite of content that profiles their ambassador, Ben Saunders. The video and photography documents Ben’s life as a polar explorer, his affinity with the Grangers brand and Grangers product videos.

'Kendal’ is one of the most eagerly anticipated mountain festivals in the world. Drawing crowds of well over ten thousand people from all over the globe, the annual trailer is the flagship of the festival, and it’s screening launches the event on their opening night.
Coldhouse produced the trailer for three years running, to a collaboratively written brief with the team at KMF.
With Kendal Mountain Festival 2019 getting started in under 2 weeks, here's a look back at the 2016 Trailer, called Untravelled Lands. We'll be there showing Dark Peak Fell Runners - will you? Let us know what you're looking forward to seeing.
