Hats Off to You!

Hi I’m Karen, business owner and sole creative for Karen Louise. I fell in love with millinery and costume while researching my options for art college and realising the depth of creativity available. I developed a obsession with collecting historical books, journals and magazines featuring work from the great artists in costume/fashion and would say my inspirational designer would be Christian Dior and more recently in millinery: Monique Lee, Milliner featuring in Vogue magazine and for Royal Ascot.

My drive for opening my business is to provide a millinery service with personalisation, an experience of appreciation of each customer and the feeling of having something made just for them. I love the concept of my customers joining a ‘community’ not only for the interest in the products but to meet and socialise at events together.

I moved Karen Louise into a creative working space at The Energy Hub at the beginning of October 2019(amazingly if you see the picture above, this was its former use many years ago), where I meet customers on an appointment basis to discuss ideas, planning bespoke pieces together. I’m also fortunate to have a community space available in the same building to deliver creative workshops to small groups.

I plan to host events, outings and activities connected to ‘our’ mutual interest in hats, fashion and costume. So excited to give group members the chance to make new friends and enjoy experiences together!
