❤️ This week, I wanted to shed some light on a local charity called HUMAN ROOTS that I volunteer with and which I feel really passionate about.

Human Roots is a registered Charity with a mission to help improve mental and physical wellbeing and tackle food poverty through community allotments and school gardens 🥕🍎🥬.

We are fundraising for our School Garden's project with
‘Sunflowers for Schools’ 🌻🏫.

Over the coming weeks, all proceeds from our appeal go towards our school garden's project which sees us building allotments/gardens in local schools which the can then be used to help kids learn the benefits of growing your own, being outdoors and eating healthily 🍃🥗.

Proceeds go directly to the school garden's project, and for every:

🌻£5: a flower will be planted in local community areas around Stansted
🌻£10: you can receive a flower pot for your garden (Uttlesford residents only)
🌻£1,000 - £10,000: we'll organise a team building day, planting flowers for your company/organisation.

💷 Our aim is to raise at least £15,000 which will allow us to help approximately 3-5 school's (depending on the garden size and scope of project)

💜 As it is Mental Health Awareness week, I wanted to share a little story. It's something that I am not overly comfortable talking about but that's something that I need to try and overcome.

🧠 I struggled with my mental health, and when I think about it, it's probably been going on for longer than I have realised but after my pregnancy, things came to a bit of a head. The sleepless nights, the dramatic change to my life, the feeling of loneliness and isolation... just a few of the factors that played a part in how I was feeling.

🗣️ It's something that I never thought would happen to me but I now realise that this is much more common and thankfully, people are talking about mental health much more which is really useful for everyone.

👏 I cannot say that things are 100% better but there is a definite improvement, there are good days and there are the occasional down days but I know that things do feel better.

❤️ I hope that by sharing this, I can help others and want anyone reading this to know that I am here. If you are struggling, my door is always open and I would love to chat.

💙 I'd love to hear your stories and what you do to get yourself out of the blues.

✨ It was recently my son's 4th and my 40-something birthday, 3 days later. It's always a funny time really, as it makes me think back to the moment I'd been eagerly awaiting for 9 months and even though I had this idea of what things would be like and the perfect plan, it could not prepare me for the days, weeks and months ahead (emergency c-section, 4 days in hospital, infections, many sleepless nights etc etc).

🫶 As I am sure many can relate, things don't always go to plan and you cannot prepare for the unknown but here we are 4 years later... still alive (🤣) and preparing for school in September.

👦 This little dude is one of the main reasons I started Charla Marketing, to enable me to work more freely around my family. I wanted: to feel challenged, to continue to grow and develop professionally in my field but still be able to spend days with my son without feeling guilty.

❤️ I feel honoured to be able to help businesses of all shapes and sizes and when a client puts their trust in me, I will always do my very best to deliver the best results possible.

😮 I am so pleased to share that my new website will be launching next week!

✨ I have been blown away by all the amazing business owners I have met since becoming self-employed and running my own company. It's really inspiring to meet, get to know and work with so many wonderful people.

🧠 This got me thinking as to how might I adapt my offering so that I can work with businesses of all shapes and sizes, so I set about carrying out some research. From this, I have created 2 new packages that will more easily allow me to work with smaller and independent business owners.

💥 Are you stuck on a particular area of marketing or have tried various things but do not seem to be getting the desired results? How about a marketing power hour where I can talk things through with you and prepare recommendations for you to implement?

🍀 I've recently been lucky enough to meet some like-minded ladies who have set up their own business because they too wanted something that worked for them.

🌟 These ladies have been a real inspiration, each has their own story around the 'why' and what prompted them to do what they do. Every single one I have met is kind, thoughtful and selfless, qualities that I rarely saw in previous professional roles. No one is there to outdo anyone, there is a genuine interest to support each others' small business.

🌟 I have been lucky enough to work with a few different businesses since launching at the end of 2020 and there has been a common theme throughout.

💡 Generally, the businesses I have worked with have no marketing department and don't fully understand how to apply successful marketing strategies that are aligned to business objectives.

🌳 Businesses can grow and become successful in many ways with little to no strategic marketing although this can be what makes the biggest difference. It's easy to see how this can happen but in order to ensure ongoing success and growth, a clear strategy is required as this will help to outline the target market and the best way to reach them effectively.

💯 I have created countless marketing strategies designed to align to business objectives, this ensured that all efforts were linked to the overall goals. I have implemented all activities and seen hugely positive results from the activities implemented with increases in lead generation, web traffic and overall engagement.

🗣 This may not make a lot of sense to those that aren't familiar with marketing but that's why I am here. One of the (many) things I love about what I do is being able to explain and break things down to my clients; outlining the challenge, the proposed solution and the ideal outcome.

🤔 So what came next on the journey to creating my own business?

👉 I'd decided on my name and my branding was all sorted, so now it was time to really get a handle on my offering.

🗣 After having worked for so many years in sales and marketing roles, I knew that I could take all my knowledge and experience and help other businesses by applying tailored strategies to help them grow. But how to really put this into practice?

🌳 It's sometimes hard to see the wood from the trees when you live and breathe something especially as I was coming from a bad place. My confidence was shot, I was so tired trying to be super-mama as well as a hot-shot professional, and needed to find the right balance. With the support of my wonderful business coach, she helped me to put things into perspective and look more positively at things.

🌟 Together, we were able to create a set of packages designed to help small to medium-sized businesses be more profitable. My offering supports my clients from the early stages of strategy conception, through to implementation, lead-generation and ultimately increased sales.

✈️ It's been an exciting journey so far, although it's not always been easy, I am excited to be on this ride. I absolutely love helping my clients and being able to support a variety of businesses achieve their goals, is immensely satisfying.

💡So why Charla Marketing?

🗣 I was raised in a bilingual household, my Dad speaking Spanish and my Mum speaking English. Growing up, our house was a social place where emphasis was always on being together, eating around the table and often having guests over for lunch and dinner parties. It was through all this that my love for being sociable came about and this has very much laid the foundations for a career in marketing.

☹️ Very sadly, my father passed away suddenly not long after my 18th birthday which was a huge blow to me and my family. From that day on, I’ve done my best to keep hold of my Spanish heritage and am now sharing that with my son.

🇪🇸 Cue thinking of names for my business, I wanted to combine the ‘social and conversational’ part of marketing whilst bringing in my Spanish roots. Charla, from the verb charlar, means to talk or chat and this really resonated with me as essentially that’s what marketing should do, talk to and connect with your audience.

🥰 And Charla Marketing was born, which is more than just a business name for me.

Hi Everyone,

🥳 It’s been a while and I thought I would start off the New Year with a fresh outlook. It’s been just over a year now since I started my business and thought it would be a good idea to take a step-back and reflect on my journey and why I set out on my own.

👧🏻 For those that may not know, I’m Jo and I am the person behind Charla Marketing. A half English/Spanish, foodie, travel-loving lady based on the Essex-Herts border. I am a wife and Mama to a 3-year old, step-Mum to an 11 year old and Mama to a crazy Labradoodle pup.

A bit about my background

👏 I graduated from ARU in Spanish and Communications, moved to the Big Smoke and worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles. I’ve spent the latter years in property related senior positions and have had the benefit of working in all areas of marketing so have a sound understanding of the full mix.

🕛 More recently, I took some time out to have a baby and when going back into a new role, I soon realised that it wasn’t for me... I was trying my best to juggle being a Mum to a baby as well as working full-time, and feeling like I was failing at both. The whole experience was a bad one and it really knocked my confidence ☹️ coupled with Covid, WFH full-time and having a baby at home during lockdown - it was not easy at all.

💬 All this got me thinking, there has to be more to life than this?! There had to be a way to work at the high-level I was used to and still be able to spend quality time with my son without feeling guilty and without fear of failure.

Charla Marketing was born

🌍 The only way to have real freedom was to be my own boss, master of my universe and answer to myself. I took a little convincing but in the end, I made the leap to create my business and I am not looking back. I am so happy to have been able to set up Charla Marketing, enabling me to work with a variety of businesses to improve their returns all on my own terms.

I would just like to take a moment to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

2021 may not have been the year we had planned with things perhaps not quite getting back to 'normal', but I hope that it has been a good year regardless.

I am so thankful for all the people I have met, the relationships I have formed, my clients, my friends and my family; without whom I would not be where I am. It's a tough slog to start your own business but I am so pleased that I did.

I look forward to supporting more of you in 2022 and to being more hands-on with the good causes that are important to me as I really love to help people.
