Our Boogie Bingo event at Halifax Irish Centre is a little over 24 hours away!

All money raised will go directly into helping Radio Calderdale continue to entertain patients at the Calderdale Royal Hospital.

We are shocked to hear this sad news. Steve Wright was a huge inspiration to many presenters at Radio Calderdale. A true broadcasting legend. He will be missed very much

We’re incredibly saddened to announce that our friend and colleague Steve Wright MBE has passed away.

We’ll miss you greatly Steve. 🧡

Steve Wright’s family said: “It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that we announce the passing of our beloved Steve Wright.
“In addition to his son, Tom, and daughter, Lucy, Steve leaves behind his brother, Laurence and his father Richard. Also, much-loved close friends and colleagues, and millions of devoted radio listeners who had the good fortune and great pleasure of allowing Steve into their daily lives as one of the UK's most enduring and popular radio personalities.
“As we all grieve, the family requests privacy at this immensely difficult time.”

Tim Davie, BBC Director General said:
“All of us at the BBC are heartbroken to hear this terribly sad news. Steve was a truly wonderful broadcaster who has been a huge part of so many of our lives over many decades. He was the ultimate professional – passionate about the craft of radio and deeply in touch with his listeners. This was deservedly recognised in the New Year Honours list with his MBE for services to radio. No-one had more energy to deliver shows that put a smile on audiences’ faces. They loved him deeply. We are thinking of Steve and his family and will miss him terribly.”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2 said:
“Steve understood the connection and companionship that radio engenders better than anyone, and we all loved him for it. Our return to live broadcasting continued last night as Russell presented his Vinyl Countdown. Russell has worked tirelessly to get us to this stage, and will continue to do so as we move towards broadcasting online.

We are back to live broadcasts! Kicked off tonight by our Chair, Rachel and followed, as always by Sam. Rachel said, “On Thursday March 19th 2020 I presented my Mainly 80s show on with a Eurovision theme. Getting it in ahead of covid just in case… Little did I know that it would be 2 years, 6 months and 17 days before I would get to broadcast again! Tonight I had the honour of presenting our first post covid live show, and I can’t tell you how good it felt! The theme was ‘We’re back! It’s been a long haul, difficult at times, and I think some doubted it would ever happen but we are definitely back. The best feeling ever!”
Onwards and upwards! A big thank you to the Volunteers dept for their help and support.
