Merrily, Merrily, Merrily: Scout’s Duck and Raft Race

Imagine: Row, row, row your raft gently down the stream … Warm sunlight trickling through the leaves of trees on the riverbank, ducks a dabbling, sausages sizzling on a smoky barbeque and the prospect of a pint or glass of your favourite tipple at Hadleigh’s best hostelry The George ... Bliss.

And all yours, courtesy of Hadleigh Sea Scouts Group, on Sunday June 11th at the annual Duck and Raft Race. Starting at 10am, the raft teams compete in heats for the highly prestigious cup - boisterous and rollicking bouts of water bourne capers as the final approaches closer. Half way through this aquatic tournament the Grand Duck Race is held - These plastic heroes face weirs, mill ponds and geese as they scrabble towards the winning line.

Every year, on the day, people come and ask to enter a team only to be disappointed as only 16 teams can compete. So if you fancy your chances, have piratical or sailing within your blood, or just the lust for glory - you need to complete a Raft Entry Form as soon as possible. These are available from behind the bar at the George on the High Street. Entry fee is £15 per raft.

Duck tickets (Duckets!) to enter the Duck Race are available from Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Leaders and also from Avis Newsagents. There might be a few left to purchase at the event. The ducks themselves are out at a local farm, limbering up for the event.

Following the Races, as is traditional we invite all to convene for our traditional post the post party hosted at The George.

PRESS RELEASE - M W Partridge & Co Ltd
It is with sadness and regret that the family of Keith Young confirm that the much-loved shop in Hadleigh High Street will be closing its doors for the final time on 30th September 2022.
A purchaser has been secured for the buildings but unfortunately the business has been struggling for many years. Covid and the recent significant decline in the retail sector has meant that the business is no longer viable as a going concern.
We would like to thank the staff and our customers for their loyalty and support over the last thirty years.

All stock will need to be sold and a closing down sale will commenced on Saturday 16th July 2022.

Should you have any Gift Vouchers please come in and use them. They will not be valid after 30th September 2022.

The former Angel Court care home in Angel Street, Hadleigh has been converted into 21 new homes, all available as social housing, helping lower income house-hunters find a home of their own. The development, funded by Babergh District Council and Homes England, is a mix of one and two-bedroom flats – offering affordable rent and shared ownership options to residents – as well as adding a further nine homes to Babergh’s council housing stock.
Pentaco Construction, site contractors, presented the keys to the new council houses to Councillors David Busby and Jan Osborne this week.
