Strike action to begin at Grimsby hospital tomorrow

Four days of distributive industrial action will begin at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital tomorrow, Tuesday 19 September.

Speaking last week, bosses at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust has they were ‘concerned’ at the “coordinated industrial action” being at staged by healthcare professionals.

This strike will mark the first time that junior doctors and consultant members of the British Medical Association will be coordinating their strike action. It will result in four days of disruption from 19th to 23rd September.

Simon Nearney, Director of Workforce for Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’ve never seen doctors take this type of coordinated industrial action in the health service before, so this does give us cause for concern and will understandably concern our patients too.

“On any one of these four days there will be disruption, but on the 20th in particular, consultants and junior doctors plan to take industrial action together, providing only emergency cover equivalent to that provided on Christmas Day.

“Once again, we will be using other skilled health professionals, such as clinical nurse specialists and advanced care practitioners, to deliver some services where safe and appropriate to do so, and their support continues to be invaluable to us.

“Ultimately, however, we could see hundreds of doctors walking out over the next few days and the operational impact of this, along with the personal impact on patients and their families who may have been waiting months to be seen, cannot be underestimated.”

| Recently, we performed a groundbreaking new epilepsy treatment for the first time at Alder Hey on 16 year old Nathan from Macclesfield 😄 The treatment uses technology that enables clinicians to pinpoint and destroy an area of the brain causing seizures in people with epilepsy, which helps them to become seizure free 🙌 We’re one of only two paediatric hospitals that offer this treatment 🏥 Nathan said: “I’ve just turned 16 and the possibility that my next birthday could be seizure free is amazing.” 🤩 Mr Ellenbogen, who performed the procedure on Nathan, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this procedure now at Alder Hey. It can be life-changing for the children and young people who really suffer with this condition.” Find out more about this innovative new treatment here ➡️ https://bit.ly/43F8cJQ

A Grimsby boy is campaigning to educate people on what to do after he had an epileptic seizure at school.
Morgan Forrington, 17, was in a maths lesson when his eyes rolled back and his arms began flailing. His friends quickly put him on the floor and moved tables and chairs out the way to make the area safe.
Other students were sent out the room while the group cared for Morgan. Now, he wants to make sure others to know exactly what to do if they're in a similar situation. https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/grimsby-news/grimsby-boy-wants-people-more-8473539

For those in need of a hot meal who can’t afford it …

If you're visiting a Morrisons Café you can get a completely FREE jacket potato and beans (normally costing £4.98 for jacket potato, side salad and Heinz beans) from Monday 24 April until Sunday 7 May.

Heinz has teamed up with Morrisons once again for this offer, and is hoping that it will provide hot meals to those who may otherwise struggle to afford it. So even if this offer is not for you, please do pass the info on to someone in need. It's available in all Morrisons 397 cafés, and is on every day while cafés are serving hot food (times may vary from each location). ❤️🇬🇧

This is a total freebie with no minimum spend required, but it's limited to one free jacket potato and beans per customer, per day. To claim the deal, you just need to 'ask for Henry' at the till point (Henry Heinz is the founder of Heinz beans in case you were wondering where the name came from).
