END OF THE LINE Fashion Retailer Quiz ‘on the brink’ of administration putting future of 17 Scots stores in doubt.

The partywear company - which has 17 Scottish outlets - has struggled in recent years, and is expected to appoint Teneo as early as next week, Sky News reports.

The move is expected to involve a pre-pack administration deal, to allow the chain's founders to regain control of a slimmed-down version of the business.

A "pre-pack administration" is an insolvency process for a business to sell its assets before appointing administrators.

The restructuring under new ownership will mean the company can keep going, but is likely to involve some store closures and job losses.

Quiz Clothing stores currently remain open for business as usual, and customers can continue to shop online without interruption.

Previously, the battling retailer said it had "disappointing" sales during the Christmas trading period.

Bosses added that its cash reserves are "less than previously anticipated".

Quiz currently employs approximately 1,500 people across its 62 standalone stores and 47 concessions across the UK.

Community Rallies to Save Cardonald Library

Cardonald residents are uniting to fight for the reopening of their beloved library, a vital community hub that has been shuttered since 2023 due to Rac Concreate Problems within the Roof. The "Gies Back Our Books – Cardonald Library" campaign has gained significant traction, fueled by passionate locals determined to restore access to books, learning resources, and a safe space for community activities.

A Grassroots Movement

The campaign started as a small online initiative and has blossomed into a full-fledged community effort. A recent Facebook post by the campaign group announced a pivotal meeting scheduled for Sunday, February 9th, 2025, at 10 am. Organizers have praised the involvement of young residents, with children leading creative efforts to raise awareness.

“Our kids are the heart of this campaign,” said one parent in the group’s online discussion. “They’re writing letters, making posters, and showing the city how important this library is for their future.”

A Resource at Risk

Cardonald Library has long been a cornerstone of the community, offering services ranging from literacy programs for children to internet access for job seekers. Its closure left a significant gap, particularly for families and elderly residents who relied on the library’s free resources.

The library’s supporters argue that its absence has exacerbated inequalities in the area, making the fight to reopen it not just about books but social justice. “The library isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity,” said campaigner Lisa McAllister. “Without it, many in our community are left behind.”

Looking Ahead

As the campaign gains momentum, local officials are being urged to reconsider funding priorities. Organizers are calling for residents to attend the February 9th meeting to strategize the next steps, including petitions, fundraising, and direct appeals to Glasgow City Council.

“We’re not giving up2025 is the year we bring our library back. This is about more than a building; it’s about the soul of our community.”

With growing public support and a determined grassroots movement, the fight to save Cardonald Library serves as a powerful reminder of the value of community spaces and the resilience of those who cherish them.

The Funky Purple Cafe "Geeza Bite" of Larkhall has had roof damage caused by the resent storm. Can you help in anyway you can by donating towards repairs and help save this very popular community space, Cafe, Catch Up Space, Safe Space and Ice Cream Shop?

Owner Adam and his partner Sam says...

Help Us Keep Our Doors Open Fully !!

This is one of the hardest things we've ever had to do, but we’ve found ourselves in a position where we really need your support.
Due to the recent severe weather, our shop roof has collapsed, and we've suffered significant water damage, which has severely affected our ability to stay open fully.
As a small business, especially in January, we simply weren't prepared for this kind of crisis, and the financial strain is becoming overwhelming.
We’ve always prided ourselves on being self-sufficient, and asking for help is something we never do lightly.
But, right now, we have no other option.
We’re a local café that offers a safe space for those struggling with mental health issues, providing free mental health services to our community.
We support our local staff, and in these challenging times, keeping our doors open means everything—not just for us, but for the people who rely on us.
Our mental health services are completely free, and we’ve seen the difference it makes to those who come to us in need. But without urgent repairs, we risk losing this space and, more importantly, our ability to continue offering this essential service.
We understand that times are tough for everyone, but if you are in a position to help, any donation—no matter how small—would go directly towards the repairs we need to stay open and continue supporting our community.
Please help us save YOUR local mental health safe space café.
We need your support now more than ever.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story, and for any contribution you can make.
Together, we can get through this and get GEEZA BIT back to what we are known for.

Help Us Keep Our Doors Open Fully !! This is one of the hardest things we've ever had… Adam Hunt needs your support for GEEZA BIT LARKHALL KEEP OPEN !!!!

BREAKING - Seven child s*x abuse ring members who preyed on kids in Glasgow drug den jailed 🚨

Seven people convicted of being part of a Scottish child abuse ring which plunged to “the depths of human depravity” have been jailed for terms ranging from 20 years to eight years. The two women and five men will all be monitored for life after being convicted of gang ra**ng a child and abusing other children in a drugs den in Glasgow where he**in and crack co***ne were used.

Iain Owens, 46; Elaine Lannery, 40; Lesley Williams, 43; Paul Brannan, 42; Scott Forbes, 51; Barry Watson, 48; and John Clark, 48, were convicted in November 2023 following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow. Four of the group: Owens, Lannery, Brannan and Williams, were found guilty of attempting to murder a child by pushing her into a microwave and trapping her in other places.

Sentencing was delayed until December while risk assessments were carried out, which judge Lord Beckett had ordered due to the severity of the crimes. The trial, which lasted for about eight weeks, heard evidence of systematic child s*x abuse, described as “harrowing” by Lord Beckett who said it “plunges to the depths of human depravity”.

He previously said he was considering whether to impose orders for lifelong restriction, which monitor high-risk offenders for the rest of their lives if they are deemed suitable for release from prison after serving a minimum punishment period. The offences, involving three children, happened between 2012 and 2019.

Owens, Lannery, Brannan, Williams, Forbes, Watson and Clark were found guilty of taking part in the gang r**e of a child. Owens and Lannery were also convicted of multiple counts of assault, s*xual assault, r**e and causing a child to ingest drugs and alcohol.

Owens and Lannery were jailed for 20 and 17 years respectively.

Glasgow becomes first UK city to launch returnable cup scheme in bid to reduce waste.

The UK’s first returnable drinking cup scheme has been launched in Scotland in an effort to reduce waste from single-use products.

Borrow Cup launched in Glasgow on Monday with more than 40 participating outlets.

They involved include major retailers such as Costa Coffee, Burger King, Caffe Nero and Tinderbox. Many smaller organisations such as Kelvingrove Museum, Sprigg and Glasgow City Chambers are also participating.

The scheme, launched by charity Hubbub and reuse start-up Reposit, aims to expand across Scotland and the UK if the project is successful in its initial three-month period.

Customers purchasing a drink at any participating store will be asked if they would like to use a Borrow Cup for a £1 deposit and will receive a discount or loyalty rewards at most stores.

Available in three sizes, customers can return a cup after use for a clean one for their next drink or a £1 voucher. Hubbub says around three-quarters of people in the UK own a reusable cup, but only a third use them at least once a month.

Pauline Quirke, famous for starring in TV sitcom Birds of a Feather, has retired from acting following a dementia diagnosis.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce my wife Pauline's decision to step back from all professional and commercial duties due to her diagnosis of dementia in 2021," Steve Sheen said.

Her diagnosis was not made public at the time.

"Pauline has been an inspiration through her work in the film and TV industry, her charity endeavours and as the founder of the very successful Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA)," Mr Sheen added.

Mr Sheen praised his wife's "talent, dedication, and vision".

He said her drama academy had "touched countless lives and will continue to do so through the legacy of her work and through PQA where her vision and guidance has facilitated many young peoples' progression and interest in the arts and enhanced their self-confidence".

Quirke was best-known as an actress for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodous on the long-running sitcom Birds of a Feather, winning a British Comedy Award in 1990 for the role.

It ran from 1989 to 1998 on BBC One, and then on ITV from 2014 to 2020.

The series followed the lives of sisters Tracey and Sharon, played by Linda Robson and Quirke, who have to fend for themselves after their husbands are arrested for armed robbery.

Quirke and Robson met as children at drama school in north London.

The pair first worked together in BBC comedy drama Shine On Harvey Moon, set in London's post-war East End, from 1982 to 1985.

In 1997, Quirke was nominated for a Bafta award for playing convicted murderer Olive Martin in BBC drama The Sculptress, based on Minette Walters' psychological thriller novel.

She also received four National Television Awards nominations - three for Birds of a Feather and one for BBC drama series Down to Earth in 2002.

Quirke also starred in BBC detective drama Maisie Raine from 1998 to 1999, appeared in ITV's Broadchurch, and played Hazel Rhodes in Emmerdale from 2010 to 2012.

In 2022, Quirke was made an MBE for services to the entertainment industry, young people, and charities.

PQA has about 250 academies and more than 15,000 students across the UK, and will "continue to operate as normal in accordance with Pauline's ideology", Mr Sheen said.

He requested privacy and understanding for his wife and her family, saying they would not be making further statements.

"Pauline just wants to spend time with her family, children and grandchildren," he added.

Quirke and Mr Sheen married in 1996, and they have "pledged future support" for Alzheimer's Research UK to help raise funds for research and awareness, the charity said.

Hilary Evans-Newton, chief executive of Alzheimer's Research UK, said they were "saddened" to hear about the actress's diagnosis.

"The family should be praised for making the brave decision to make her diagnosis public, which will not only provide more freedom for them, but also raise such vital awareness of the condition," she said.

Dementia UK CEO and Chief Admiral Nurse Dr Hilda Hayo added: "By choosing to speak publicly about her condition, Pauline will raise vital awareness for young onset dementia.

"We hope this will encourage others to seek support if they are concerned about their brain health."

Mr Sheen also praised late actress Dame Barbara Windsor's husband Scott Mitchell for his work with the charity following her dementia diagnosis.

Glasgow City Council say that Drivers will be fined £100 for breaching the rules, which come into force on 29 January.

Enforcement of Glasgow's pavement parking ban is set to come into force on 29 January - with drivers facing a £100 fine if they breach the rules.

Scotland's largest local authority hopes the new powers will protect pedestrians - including people with mobility issues, the elderly, and those with pushchairs - who could be forced on to the road by inappropriate parking.

The parking controls will also include a crackdown on double parking and parking at dropped kerbs.

Warning notices will be issued initially as motorists adjust to the changes, and all fines will be reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.

Councillor Angus Millar, city convener for transport, said: "Pavement parking, double parking and parking at dropped kerbs create road safety hazards across Glasgow and put vulnerable pedestrians and wheelchair users in danger every day.

"People with mobility issues or visual impairments, or those who are pushing a buggy or pram for example, will often struggle to get around their community because of pavement parking.

"Forcing people to walk on the carriageway in direct conflict with traffic is unacceptable and enforcing the new restrictions will make our street safer for all road users.

Police were called to the motorway at the White Cart Viaduct around 12.45pm on Wednesday.

The westbound carriageway of the road, close to the airport junction, has been closed as a result.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

Traffic Scotland posted to their feed at 1pm: “Road CLOSED due to an on-going police incident.

“Road users are advised to find alternative routes at this time.”
