Repeat after me: worth is not measured in likes or followers.

Let's break the cycle: your social media presence ≠ your worth or the success of your business. It's easy to fall into the trap of equating growth metrics with personal or professional value.

But here's the truth:

You're constantly being given advice from 'social media experts' on how to grow your accounts, but most of it overlooks the realities:

- many of those preaching growth have unique circumstances: they might have started when growth was easier or had significant resources at their disposal.
- behind the scenes, there's often a wealth of experience, investment, and more often than not, paid ads driving their numbers.
- they already have a dedicated team, with years of experience in creative, copywriting, content, strategy, communication and marketing.

It's time to acknowledge:

- Quality over quantity: a small, engaged community beats a massive, disengaged following any day. Your impact on those who genuinely connect with you is what truly matters.

- Authenticity over algorithms: being true to yourself and your audience resonates far more powerfully than any growth hack. Your story, your passion, your why — these are the real drivers of meaningful engagement.

- Remember the journey: social media growth isn't a linear path, nor is it a reflection of your value as an individual or the success of your business. It's a process, often unpredictable and full of challenges.

Thrilled to share that I've been accepted onto the Leadership in Board Governance course at Napier University! This postgraduate module offers a comprehensive 200 hours of learning, and I couldn't be more excited to learn alongside fellow 'Governance Practitioners'.

The course kicked off tonight, diving straight into the first module, which included undertaking a skills assessment. I can already tell this is going to be super interesting and worthwhile!

This programme is providing nine local businesses with tailored support, expert guidance, and the fantastic co-working spaces at Greenlaw Works in Newton Mearns.

We've launched a new support programme for local businesses, led by Business Gateway.

East Renfrewshire Accelerator will provide nine businesses with tailored support, expert advice and access to co-working space within the Greenlaw Works in Newton Mearns. The aim for the businesses is to achieve a turnover of £250,000 and create at least one new job opportunity per business, while focussing on technological adoption, sustainability and strengthening the local entrepreneurial landscape.

We all use some AI here and there but we have to be honest about it.

With Meta, you have no choice. If you use AI on a Meta app, it will disclose that to your audience.

With this transparency, they are also working to strengthen the way they detect AI use on posts in general.

This way users of Meta apps will be able to know which posts have used AI for their content to create an authentic space for media consumers.

Today, let's celebrate the power of introversion in business and embrace the unique strengths it brings to the table. As I reflect on my own journey, I've come to realise that I lean towards being more of an ambivert – a blend of introversion and extroversion.

Being an ambivert has its perks... I can easily connect with a diverse range of individuals and navigate various social settings. It's a valuable trait in the business world where effective communication is key. However, I've also learned the importance of carving out moments for solitude and self-reflection (which is also tricky as a mum!!) Balancing social interactions with personal space is crucial for maintaining well-being and productivity.

We all know social media tends to be more a show reel than real life, but don’t forget there’s real power in keeping things real.

Real life, open and honest, behind the scenes content is what leads to real connections and building relationships.

As a mum of young boys, who also works with social media, I feel a responsibility to highlight the irony of how social media has become so filtered and polished it’s the authentic, genuine, keeping it real content which stands out.

And not only that, keeping content real builds your audience with people who know, like and trust the real you. When you share your offers you can do it confidently knowing that who you are speaking to are people who want what you offer.

Don't be taken in by the huge follower count or go looking for validation in likes and views as this doesn't always translate into sales.

Batching is for EVERY small business owner.

Yes. Each and every one of you.

I know there are people out there who say you're allowed to create intuitively or you're allowed to create it in the moment.

And yes, I think creating that way is a good thing.

I'm just saying it shouldn't be the ONLY way you create content.

In some form, at some level, batching is going to help you create a better habit with content creation.

You will create a better routine with content creation.

Ultimately be able to show up more consistently online, which will pay off when it comes to brand awareness and sales!

Here are 5 things you need to have on your radar this November:

1. Black Friday promotions - Will you be offering a discount? What will it be? When will the promotion start and end? When should you let your audience know about the sale?

2. Affiliates - If you’re an affiliate for other businesses, make a plan for the products you want to talk about and when. If you have an affiliates program for your own business, let the members know when your holiday promotions will be.

3. Email list - You’ll probably be contacting those on your email list a lot this month. Incentivise your followers to subscribe so you have a larger list to work with. Sales happen through DMs, stories, and email.

4. Christmas content - You should be posting holiday content sooner than you think. It might mean putting up the tree early to record content.

5. Time off - The holiday season gets busy quick, but it’s also the best time for sales. Plan ahead and start creating now so you can enjoy some time with family while still reaching your goals.
