In between recordings we’ve been hard at work re-imagining the GloWorm premises. This room upstairs is going to be such an asset to our team of producers and engineers. We’re eager to share with you the finished space. But until then, much like an album recording, here’s the process.

It’s release day for today. Last night was the album listening party…and it was great to be part of the event hearing all the stories behind the tune writing. Here’s one of the images from the recording process with our very own in the driving seat.

This is what a day of tracking synths looks like. Always grateful for the team of producers (and musician friends) who have enhanced the toys in the studio and in turn make for a better experience for everyone.

Keir Long, one of GloWorm’s engineers, tech manager, and also now co-owner, was performing on synths (Prophet5, Matriarch, vocoder) at John Mulhearn’s Pipe Factory gig at Piping Live! last Friday. The band comprised of John Mulhearn, Keir Long and Iain Sandilands (on percussion and samples).

The album was recorded by in the Pipe Factory, which is an amazing building in the historically important Glasgow Barras. Andrea then mastered it at Carrier Waves Mastering ( which lives at GloWorm).

Shoutout to who is doing a listening party for his album on the 29th August. The album was recorded at GloWorm at the tail end of last year with the recording and mixing engineer. The album is titled Will McNicol with Innotet Vol 2, and it involved Can’t wait for you to hear this 👏

This gig had a brilliant backdrop! On hand was our 96 channel GloWorm location rig, recording the performing a Harry Potter score live at Edinburgh Castle. During the set up we took a moment to capture the sound check.

Many who have recorded with us at GloWormRecording will know this space well. Down the corridor past the gear room on the right, the live room on the left (and the facilities) you’ll find Studio 2. It’s a high end smaller space centred around a Pro-Tools HD Native system and SSL Nucleus with a selection of high end outboard. It has 2 ISO booths, the larger of which can accommodate a drum kit, and houses a beautiful Daneman upright piano equipped with a felt damper. NEW RELEASE: Seafarers new song ‘Bedwetters’ is out today. For those new to their artistry, think alt indie music. The song was produced by at and mixed by at GloWorm. Love seeing how different producers have worked together for this project. Certainly feels like a real team effort at GloWorm and something we will endeavour to do more of.

Studio 1 in action captured wide angle.

This space is a large tracking and mixing studio with room to facilitate a whole band playing live.

The control room is built around an SSL AWS 948 Delta Analogue Console, Barefoot MM27 Monitoring, Burl Mothership conversion, and a high quality selection of outboard. The studio is flooded with natural light in the control room, and has large windows to the first of 3 isolation booths on the left, and a large live room on the right, allowing significant line of sight for live tracking.

We believe in flexibility to accommodate any project and any budget. Studio 1 can be joined with Studio 2 to allow live tracking with 7 isolated spaces. Studio 1’s live room can be used from Studio 2 (for example while mixing sessions are running in Studio 1 control room), or even used on it’s own with our mobile UA Apollo system (See ’Studio 3’ for more info).

The studio is home to our Ritmuller upright piano (a beautiful 100 year old German instrument), and a Hammond L100 organ.

We are so sad to hear of the passing of Steve Albini this week. The world of recording has lost a legend. I () owe several of the techniques I use on a daily basis here to Mr Albini - little nuggets of gold he shared at a seminar I was lucky enough to be at back in 2018. Not only was he a master of his craft but he was also an incredibly engaging and inspiring teacher. Rest in peace Steve 🙏🙏

Big big thanks to Alasdair Mclean servicing the vintage 1975 Ampeg V4b head last month. He’s based in Moniaive and lives and breathes valve amps and high end hifi. Awesome job!
