Gerry Hemingway, Composer/Percussionist/Visual Artist/Educator, has crafted a innovative and unparalleled practice while been at the forefront of creative music for four decades. As well as working in one of Anthony Braxton’s most famous and influential groups, he has worked with some of the world leading voices in improvised and experimental music including Anthony Davis, Wadada Leo Smith, Cecil Taylor and George Lewis.

‘Meditative, subtly provocative, impressionistic and consistently alluring’”, Japanese born Izumi Kimura is a highly acclaimed pianist, improviser, and educator. Equally at home working with a symphony orchestra or performing in small groups, her practice is spellbinding and invigorating.

Raymond MacDonald is a founding member of The Glasgow Improvising Orchestra and Professor of Music Psychology and Improvisation at University of Edinburgh. He has released over 60 albums, written music for television, film and theater and performed, recorded and broadcast globally for over 30 years while developing an extensive network of multidisciplinary collaborators.

You wait for ages for an album launch and they all come at once. I do not possess Padre Pio powers so i have to forfeit one. The 2 albums being launched tonight are by the the fabulous Davie Scott and The Pearlfishers for the wonderful Frets Concerts at the Strathaven hotel. There may be a few tickets left for that if you are in the area. The other is by the mighty James King and the Lonewolves who'll be rocking Stereo. Get along to these if you can. Both benefited from the Glasgows best La Chunky Studio.
Taylor is also launching an album but i had no input🙃.

Techno counter-logistician and cultural theorist DeForrest Brown, Jr., lands in Glasgow to present his work Techxodus. The record continues Brown's project of reclaiming techno from its white gentrification while also pointing to the contrapuntal possibilities opened up through Black rhythm.

Hannan Jones and Shamica Ruddock are a quantum noise improvisational duo. Reflecting on their positionality as subjects of diaspora with divergent colonial histories, they meet in the auditory sphere. Performatively, they are spatiotemporal cartographers speculating through experimental sound, film, electronic and analog music equipment, archives and futurisms, sonic fictions, aural histories and world-building. Artists in their own right, they found commonalities in their practices by way of sonic improvisation. This venture is one of self-acceptance and alternate arrivals.

Conal Blake is a musician from Glasgow. He currently plays solo and improvises with Li Song and Regan Bowering, using electronics and percussion. He also runs the Feedback Moves label.

This event is held in partnership between Counterflows, La Chunky Studio, and the University of Glasgow's Infrastructure Humanities Group.

We had a great time recording the new Josienne Clarke album a couple of weeks ago. It was really inspiring to see this beautiful collection of songs come together, and to capture the performances from Josienne, Dave Hamblett Music, Matt Robinson Music and Alec Bowman Clarke.

Very excited to welcome outsider post-punk hero David Chesworth to the studio on Saturday evening for a rare performance of his seminal 1979 album ‘50 Synthesiser Greats’. David co-founded the influential Australian experimental post punk/art group Essendon Airport (“essential illogic and quirked delight from one of the lost treasures of the postpunk era” - Simon Reynolds) as well as the independent label Innocent Records that released many of his early solo records (Industry & Leisure, Layer on Layer) that have become underground classics – many now reissued on favourite Australian label Chapter Music.

Severin Blackk will also be joining on the night, playing a new live set of dubbed out electronics and clarinet. Severin runs the experimental label and event series Archaic Vaults, and has released material alongside YL Hooi, Oxhy, Ewa Awe, Flora Yin-Wong, Nexcyia, Lisa Lerkenfeldt, Civilistjävel and Christoph de Babalon. Using the label as an outlet for ongoing projects with violinist Vanessa Bedoret and sound artist Owen Pratt, Severin also has a sizable discography under the techno alias Nape – the most recent being the album Ten Tonne Angel on Psychic Liberation. They have performed in spaces such as the ICA (London), KM28 (Berlin), Le Poisson Rouge (New York), Mission To Seafarers (Melbourne) and on a giant pipe organ in a north-east London church.

Local legend Simone Antigone presents an exploration of natural Evil with a full band setup!

Disk Jockey Fergus Clark will be playing records from the Post Punk era throughout the night!

Us crazed inventors here at The Strange Blue Dreams are very excited to be finally flicking the (fairly creaky!) switch & releasing our 'Simple Machine' onto an unsuspecting public via Holy Smokes Records!

Recorded with Johnny Smillie at La Chunky Studio and Film City Glasgow between 2019 & 2020, this was originally scheduled for release in summer 2020 and then covid hit. The wonderful artwork was designed by the untaggable Divine. 2 years on and we're still very chuffed with the results and hopefully you guys are too!
