We are delighted that our 3rd LP ‘$3 Ho**er’ (released 2008) is now available on your fave digital platforms inc Spotify.
We entered Gravity Shack Studios, Tooting in late 2006 to start recording with engineer Jessica Corcoran. Jess was a delight to work with but threw us a curve ball on day 1 by suggesting we recorded basic guitar, bass and vocal to a ‘click track’ and then record the drums to the click track. This was a totally different to the ‘everyone in the room’ approach we’d used before but despite our initial concerns, we had the basic tracks ‘in the can’ by the end of day 2.
Unlike the lengthy late night ‘Brain Machine’ & ‘Robots’ LP recording marathons at Astra Audio, the Gravity Shack sessions were focused 8 hour days and across 3 weekend sessions we completed the 8 tracks and then returned a few months later to record ‘Cheeky Tiki’, ‘Common Prayer’, ‘Falling Down’, ‘Diablo’ and a rework of an early ‘B’ side ‘Swamp Baby’. With the majority of the recording done, in 2007 we switched to Perry Vale studios to add finishing touches including keyboards by Jim (ex-King Salami & the Cumberland) and to mix the songs with the legendary Pat Collier. Pat added a great vibe to the mixes and we then worked with him on our subsequent recording adventures. Sadly Pat recently passed away and he is great missed.
Initially the LP had a working title of ‘Big Dipper’ but we settled on ‘$3 Ho**er’ named after an obscure cocktail. Ho**er is more song-based than its experimental predecessor ‘Robots’ with Gretsch guitars to the fore (keyboard man Ian had departed in 2003) and many of the tunes are still live favourites. Released on CD only on our Tribal Vibes Label in 2008, it sold very well and helped secured our monthly residence at the 12 Bar Club in Denmark Street, London.
A review: ‘From rocker ‘Movie Star’ to the garage-country murder ballad ‘Black Sack’ and rockabilly infused ‘Common Prayer’, this LP is an entertaining sure-fire hit’. Thanks to BomberMusic for making this happen.
