Invacare UK are super excited to be supporting and participating in the Superhero Tri event on 17 August in what will be a fun filled day of sports and activities specifically for people with disabilities.

Come and join the Invacare Hub in their marquee located near the start/finish area. They will be offering a number of on-stand activities, including a competition to win a fantastic experience day for the whole family.

As its very much a sports year, they’ll have their very own GB coloured chair on display, and in collaboration with leading British Sports charity, Wheelpower, who are also exhibiting, they will be offering accessible exercise sessions at regular intervals.

The Motability Scheme’s Big Event returns to the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate for a free two-day motoring show on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 August 2024.

Alongside cars and wheelchair accessible vehicles, the event also gives visitors a chance to see the full range of accessibility products on the Scheme; including powered wheelchairs and scooters.

Able Magazine has teamed up with Superhero Series to turn one disabled Clark Kent or Peter Parker, into a superhero (plus two sidekicks) at their event taking place at Dorney Lake, Eton College Rowing Centre on Saturday 17 August 2024

Superhero Tri, powered by Marvel is a unique solo or team mission set across one of three distances which include a swim, bike, run/push with the most popular being the Sprint Superhero Tri comprising a 150m swim, 3km cycle and 1km push/run.

The prize is for a team consisting of one superhero and up to two sidekicks and is worth £75.

Angela and Barry Major, from Doncaster, have just taken delivery of their third wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), the Peugeot Rifter Horizon, from Allied Mobility. Married for 36 years, the couple are parents of two incredible daughters, Laura and Rebecca. Laura, the eldest, is a wheelchair user.

Even though they’ve been customers of Allied Mobility for 15 years, Angela, Barry and Laura were still visited by their local mobility consultant for their free home demonstration. This ensured their new WAV was right for everyone, by showing the family both the accessibility and standard features of Horizon.

Road casualty data shows that in 2022 alone, nine mobility scooter users were killed and 270 were injured in collisions on UK roads. Alarmingly, the figures show that over the last decade, mobility scooter casualties have increased by an average of 20% year-on-year.

Surewise, which has insured more than 130,000 mobility scooters in the UK, is so concerned about the safety of mobility scooter users that it has launched a ‘Safer Mobility’ campaign that aims to educate all road users about the risks facing mobility scooter users, who are particularly vulnerable if they are involved in a crash.

🌟 Did you catch the Bellman team at Naidex?

Yesterday, Elizabeth and Sarah had the privilege of conversing
with the amazing Dr Shani Dhanda!

Shani, disability, inclusion and accessibility expert and named the UK’s most influential disabled person, hosted a session alongside Tasha Ghouri, a remarkable activist and social influencer who made history as the first deaf contestant on Love Island, advocating passionately for deaf rights.

Tasha's journey, navigating hearing loss from birth with her parents, resonated deeply with us and our users.

Shani and Tasha’s message of joy and self-acceptance was truly inspiring, reminding us of the importance of embracing our identities.

Later in the day, Tom Jamison, Editor of Able Magazine, engaged Roman Kemp in a discussion on mental health and isolation, issues that individuals with disabilities face daily. Their conversation was authentic, touching, and left a lasting impact.

Events like these highlight the significance of connection and
spreading messages of empowerment. A special acknowledgement to the phenomenal interpreters throughout the say and Speaksee for ensuring accessibility for all attendees with live captioning throughout discussions.
