Very pleased to share this beauty with the world - our first record of 2021 and our first physical record in a year! We were turned on to Moonilena during a Stockholm visit when Pedrodollar told us she played weird music and we'd get along - he was right on both counts and her subsequent mix for our Rinse show became a solid favourite with many of the highlights turning out to be unreleased.. until now 🤗

Still really in love with this a year later. There’s a lovely hopeful quality to it ~ brighter days ARE ahead🌞

When we found out we had the headline slot at We Out Here Festival we wanted to use the platform to tell Mame’s Story properly.

Our percussionist/vocalist Mame NDiack has continual issues getting a visa to perform with us in the UK even though he lives in Amsterdam but has a passport from Senegal 🇸🇳 - it’s an expensive, exhausting and often demeaning process for him and for us, and for every application we do, there are no guarantees of success.

I reached out to various people and found out that Mame’s experience is endured by so many artists and musicians from around the world who’ve been booked to perform in the UK. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!! Our culture is at risk if we reduce exposure to global creative talent from across the arts - it happens not only in music but literature, film, art, design and more

We put together this video to play when we performed Mames Story, which features a list of musicians around the world who’ve had visa issues and been denied entry to the UK - some absolute legends on there- but this is by no means exhaustive.

What can be done?? With Brexit looming and the rise of popularism i fear that this is only going to get worse. How can we change this?

After releasing Wraetlic's (Alex Smoke) seminal 'Ad Absurdum' earlier in the year, we're very pleased to have arranged for the entire album to be remixed by friends, associates and artists we've long time admired. These will drop over the remainder of the year on Belters and we're very excited to share all these new interpretations.

The first one is easily the heaviest record on Belters to date. Headed up by Hodge, who can do no wrong to our ears and as expected, he's turned in a stomper. This is well matched with the thundering effort by Toronto-via-Cairo's DINAA. On the other side, Deena Abdelwahed does the damage with a wonky number, alongside Glasgow's boy wonder, Pseudopolis who drops the pace but keeps the heat 💪💪💪💪

This new mix is a bit of an extended family affair.. 💞

Firstly, it's for the Cologne crew at Kompakt Records who have been an unbelievable supporter of the label since the early days and have been responsible for getting many important records to the right shops.. 💘

It was also recorded at THE Studio Barnhus on my recent trip to Stockholm this month. I previously recorded a few well received mixes there and have a good feeling about this one too ❣️

It's jam PACKED with many many new BELTERS forthcoming plus some exclusives - including one by my host with the MOST - Axel Boman 💖

Lastly, I managed to make good use of segments from an interview with my dear Valesuchi - shouting out many of the Latino gang inc. Cashu, Mansur Elias, Andrea Paz, Ananda, Carol Mattos, Enrique Leon, NAAFI and Julianna Cuervo 💗

I’ve been a massive fan of the Innervisions sensibility since first hearing 'Rej' - they've introduced to a lot of great music over the years and it’s been a great honour to have received their support in recent times.. 🥰

As they’ve just stocked up on some label catalogue for their impeccably curated, Muting The Noise shop, I felt like this was a good opportunity to do a mix leaning towards sophisticated summer sounds from Shawlands to Kreuzberg - ideal for cooling down after a day at the lakes 😎

‘What’s the scene like in Glasgow?’ Is a question I’ve been answering a lot recently.. Well let me SHOW you 🤗

The FIFTH instalment of the Clyde Built compilation series is OUT NOW‼️

It’s the biggest to date and proves yet again how Glasgow flourishes with such a hotbed of creative talent. At this rate, there must be more music projects per square capita than anywhere else 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿📡

Since the start of the H+P show on Rinse FM back in 2014, Auntie Flo and myself have used the platform to champion DJ’s, producers and promoters that we’ve admired from all corners of the globe.. 🌐

Having just returned from my lengthy trip in Latin America over the past few months, I was struck by how the main operators in each respective scene; from Belo Horizonte to Santiago, Bogota to São Paolo were making connections with each other and developing a burgeoning network across a vast continent. 🌎

Another word that came up regularly in conversation was ‘underground’ and it seemed to carry a different meaning to how I have begun to perceive it in recent years. There is a real desire to operate independently without corporate sponsors and the necessary big name bookings required for their patronage. The majority of the parties and festivals I attended were almost solely comprised of Latino artists and residents from the city and they attracted audiences between 300-2000 - without a PR campaign in sight. Coming from Europe, this felt particularly refreshing and inspiring 😊

As you can expect, I encountered even more talented people than I’m able to showcase here and I barely scratched the surface, so I’m by no means nominating myself as a gr**go spokesperson.. but feel this is a good documentation of my recent trip and those who made it especially memorable 🥰
