A good performance from our boys against a home side missing a few key players.

The first half performance in particular was to the level we expect with our back four of Brannan, Manson, Crawford and McGown all using the ball intelligently allowing us to build up play.

However it was the first half display from man of the match Dylan McCafferty that had bums off seats with assists in all three goals, the first from a corner bulleted home by Dean Manson that brought muted celebration from the big fella returning to his old club. The second was a stunning shot that was brilliantly saved but fortunately Johnny Harrison was on hand to convert and then the third was great play again and a cross diverted into his own goal from an opposing defender.

The Steins midfield looked more compact than recent weeks and Finley Miller, Chiz and Kyle can be happy with their contribution.

With Doune down to ten men the second half was routine, more great play from McCafferty culminated in a cultured Harrison finish, which completed his hattrick following an earlier goal from close range.

Stephen Donaghy had given the opposition problem for most of the game and he was duly rewarded when he got his goal from a cheeky near post finish.

Not easy for our opponents today as they were light and we were firing but we wish them well for the rest of the season, a decent bunch of guys who will come back stronger.

Well done to our players and thanks to the supporters who came along and never let us down.

Steins Thistle 1 -1 Pather FC

A tight contest that perhaps could have gone either way with the away side shading the first period and Steins having the ascendancy second half.

Steins couldn’t find their normal fluency at the Dale first half but the back line of Crawford, Brannan, McPherson and Manson seemed to deal very well with dangerous balls into the box. The away team shouted for a penalty as a hand ball in the box prompted a nervous response but the official probably correctly ruled the arm could not get out the way from close range.

The best chance of the first half fell to Declan Valentine who will be disappointed he’s blazed over from close range. Dean Manson wasn’t far away either with an outstanding overhead kick.

The second half seen Steins energy begin to assert but we were massively aggrieved when a penalty kick was awarded against us following a mishap by the referee off a poor corner by Pather. The official misread the situation completely and apologised afterwards.

The response from Steins was immediate though when just two minutes later after Deco was brought down on the edge of the box, up stepped Stephen Donaghy to rifle the equaliser in the bottom corner and square the match.

From this point on it was one way traffic, Dylan McCafferty almost snatched the winner but his net bound shot hit Kyle Allison on the goal line.

Chances were now being created and twice Johnny Harrison looked certain to score but smashed the first over the bar after creating the half yard to get the shot away and then from even closer in he has shanked it wide albeit there was a significant bobble.

Just as the referee was going to blow his whistle Pather have countered and Callum Gray has made an excellent save in what would have been sucker punch.

Overall the lads can be happy with their application today although we know we can play better but in these tight contests the margins are slim and we look forward to the away game.
