Scottish International Piano Competition The 2023 competition was held 1 - 10 September. Congratulations to 1st Prize Winner Jonathan Mamora!

The Scottish International Piano Competition has been captivating audiences in Glasgow, UK, since 1986. Attracting some of the most exceptional young musicians from around the world, it offers a unique opportunity for emerging pianists to establish themselves early in their careers. The eagerly anticipated 2023 edition, taking place from September 1st to 10th, promises to be an unforgettable event

. Participants will showcase their talents in recital rounds at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, followed by a concerto performance by three finalists with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, conducted by David Niemann. A distinguished and internationally acclaimed panel of judges will oversee all stages of the competition, chaired by our Artistic Director Aaron Shorr. The jury will also include renowned concert pianists Albert Tiu, Boris Slutsky, Carole Presland, Clare Hammond, Ingo Dannhorn, and Marc Silverman.

🎶 We're delighted to hear that Oliver Hak, our 2023 SIYPC Junior Division winner, has just won First Prize and two additional recital prizes in the 16-25 age category at the Concours International Piano Neuchâtel -Val de Travers (despite being only 14!). 👏

Based in Glasgow, Oliver studies with Dr Marianna Abrahamyan at our friends, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

We are delighted to announce that the treasured Scottish pianist, Steven Osborne OBE, has enthusiastically accepted our invitation to become Patron! 🎹

Steven shared, 'As a child, I watched the very first Scottish International Piano Competition with rapt attention. Over the years, I've observed how well-run it is and how well cared for the candidates are, so it is a great pleasure, almost 40 years after my first encounter with it, to become the competition's Patron.'

Artistic Director, Professor Aaron Shorr, added, 'We are immensely proud to welcome Steven Osborne as Patron, as we approach our celebratory 40th anniversary edition since the competition's inception in 1986. As one of Scotland's most revered classical musicians, Steven brings an exceptional artistic legacy. We are excited to collaborate with him in shaping and enhancing the artistic vision that has earned the competition such high regard throughout the world.'

📣 We're so pleased to announce four exceptional board members who will be joining the Scottish International Piano Competition team! 🌟

Alistair Mackie joins SIPC with extensive experience in orchestral management at the highest level. Currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Alistair previously held principal trumpet positions with both the London Sinfonietta and the Philharmonia Orchestra, where he additionally served as Interim Managing Director.

Amanda MacLeod brings a wealth of knowledge in music education, fundraising, and arts management. Amanda has led St Andrews Voices as Festival Director, Aberdeen International Youth Festival as Festival Manager, and was The Sixteen’s Education and Outreach Manager, alongside a busy freelance career. She is a trustee of Glasgow School of Art Choir and Chair of Festival Voices.

David Robinson, with a background in finance and charity leadership, joins the board with a strong understanding of strategic planning and governance. David, an actuary by profession, has been a Non-Executive Director of several prominent organisations in the UK and abroad, and currently serves as the vice-chair of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Antonina Suhanova, a renowned pianist with an international career, contributes her artistic, public relations, and operational expertise. Antonina will be familiar to our audience through her inspiring performances in the 2017 SIPC, and shares invaluable insight from membership of the committees of prestigious festivals and piano competitions in Latvia. Now based in London, she is a faculty member at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

👏 We are thrilled that our Artistic Director, Professor Aaron Shorr, has been appointed Director of Music at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. This is a momentous achievement and a testament to Professor Shorr's unparalleled expertise and dedication to music education. Congratulations from all of us at the Scottish International Piano Competition. 🎶

Following a period as interim postholders and an internal appointment process, Professor Aaron Shorr has been appointed Director of Music and Dr Marc Silberschatz as Director of Drama, Dance, Production and Film.
