BIRTHDAY BOY - GEORGE McCRAE! 80 ON SATURDAY!

George Warren McCrae Jr. (born October 19th, 1944) is an American soul and disco singer who is most famous for his 1974 hit "Rock Your Baby".

"It's Been So Long" and "I Can't Leave You Alone" were also 1970s Disco Classics! George now lives in The Netherlands.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 70s DISCO LEGEND PATRICK JUVET.

Patrick Juvet (21 August 1950 – 1 April 2021) was a Swiss model and singer-songwriter, who had a string of hit records in Europe. While his early career was focused on making pop records, he found international success as a disco music performer in the latter half of the 1970s. His biggest hit, "I Love America", made the top twenty in France, Sweden and the UK, and the top ten in the US disco chart.

Born in Montreux, Switzerland, Juvet grew up in nearby La Tour-de-Peilz, with his parents, Robert and Janine, his brother Daniel, and his sister Nancy. Juvet began studying piano at age 7; later he developed an interest in the music of The Beatles. Juvet represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 1973 with "Je vais me marier, Marie," placing at no. 12 in the competition.

In 1977, Juvet collaborated with Jean-Michel Jarre on the French-language album, Paris by Night, which featured the hit song, "Où sont les femmes?" In 1978, he worked with noted disco producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, who also produced the Village People and The Ritchie Family, among other acts. As a result, Juvet soon experienced international success with the disco tracks, "Got a Feeling" and "I Love America".

Patrick passed away on the 1st April 2021 from a cardiac arrest at his home in Barcelona.

If you live anywhere west of the Erskine Bridge, it's time to get the white flares out and re-scan your DAB+ digital radio to hear our great 70s sounds!

MAY 29th - HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUO LEGEND FRANCIS ROSSI!

Francis Dominic Nicholas Michael Rossi, OBE (born 29 May 1949) is the co-founder, lead singer, lead guitarist and the sole continuous member of the rock band Status Quo.

First single in the charts in the 1970s was Paper Plane - a Timeless 70s regular play!

Happy Birthday Mr Rossi - a guitar legend! Also likes model railways so definitely a plus in our books!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THELMA HOUSTON!

Thelma Houston (née Jackson; born May 7, 1946) is an American singer. Beginning her recording career in the late 1960s, Houston scored a number-one hit record in 1977 with her recording of "Don't Leave Me This Way", which won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

On September 20, 2004, Houston's rendition of "Don't Leave Me This Way" was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in New York City.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLEN CAMPBELL!

Glen Travis Campbell (April 22, 1936 – August 8, 2017) was an American country singer, guitarist, songwriter, and actor. He was best known for a series of hit songs in the 1960s and 1970s. He released 64 albums in a career that spanned five decades, selling over 45 million records worldwide, including twelve gold albums, four platinum albums, and one double-platinum album.

His best known 1970s hits were Rhinestone Cowboy and Southern Nights.

EXCITING NEWS! TIMELESS 70s IS GOING ON DAB DIGITAL RADIO.

The secret is out! Timeless 70s is launching on DAB digital radio in May in areas of Scotland - sorry listeners in England, Wales and Ireland, we'll get to you as soon as we can! In the meantime you can listen online, on Alexa, on MyTuner and on our app Timeless Player which is available from the Google Play Store.

Starting in the Clyde Coast DAB area we believe the launch date is May 25th and we'll start broadcasting great 70s tunes to over 150,000 people straight away. Let's fire up the Audi!

We paid a visit to the transmitter installers in Inverclyde over the weekend to see how things were progressing. The guy in the Hi Vis jacket is quite famous in the West of Scotland, guess who it is? Answers in the comments please. No prizes, just some smug satisfaction if you guess right!

BIRTHDAY BOY ELTON! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIR ELTON JOHN.

Sir Elton Hercules John CH CBE (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) born on the 25th March 1947 is a British singer, pianist, composer and music icon. Acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his work during the 1970s and for his lasting impact on the music industry, his music and showmanship have had a significant impact on popular music. His songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin is one of the most successful in history.

Elton was raised in Pinner and learned to play piano at an early age, winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied for five years. He formed the blues band Bluesology in 1962, but left in 1967 to embark on a solo career and met Taupin the same year. John's critical success was at its peak in the 1970s, when he released a string of chart-topping albums both in the US and UK, which began with H***y Château (1972) and culminated with Rock of the Westies (1975).

IT'S BIRTHDAY TIME AGAIN! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE FABULOUS CANDI STATON.

Candi Staton, born Canzetta Maria Staton on March 13th 1940, is an American singer–songwriter, best known in the United States for her 1970 cover of Tammy Wynette's "Stand by Your Man" and her 1976 disco chart-topper "Young Hearts Run Free". Candi is a four-time Grammy Award nominee.

In 1968, Staton was introduced to Rick Hall by Clarence Carter and launched her solo career as a Southern soul stylist, garnering 16 R&B hits for Rick Hall's Fame Studios and gaining the title of "First Lady of Southern Soul" for her Grammy-nominated R&B renditions of the songs "Stand by Your Man" and "In the Ghetto". Staton appeared on the September 23, 1972, edition of Soul Train.

In 1976, Staton began collaborating with producer David Crawford on disco songs such as "Young Hearts Run Free", which reached No. 1 on the US R&B charts, No. 2 in the UK Singles Chart and went Top 20 on the Pop Hot 100 during the summer of 1976. It was remixed and re-released in 1986, reaching the UK Top 50. Follow up song "Destiny" hit the Top 50 in the UK. and her version of "Nights on Broadway" hit the UK Top 10 in 1977.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIKI DEE! 77 TODAY!

Kiki Dee (born 6 March 1947) born Pauline Matthews, is an English pop singer. Known for her blue-eyed soul vocals, she was the first female singer from the UK to sign with Motown's Tamla Records.

Dee is best known for the hit singles "Amoureuse" (1973), "I've Got the Music in Me" (1974) and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", her 1976 duet with Elton John, which reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Kiki also shares her birthday with Timeless 70s very own Steve Delahaye. Happy Birthday everyone!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS REA!

Christopher Anton Rea (born 4 March 1951) is an English rock and blues singer and guitarist from Middlesbrough. Known for his distinctive voice and his slide guitar playing, Rea has recorded twenty five solo albums, two of which topped the UK Albums Chart.

He is best known in the 1970s for the 1978 single "Fool (If You Think It's Over)", which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, earning him a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist in 1978.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOOLS HOLLAND!

Jools Holland (born 24 January 1958) is an English pianist, bandleader, singer, composer and television presenter. He was an original member of the band Squeeze who broke through in the 1970s with great tracks such as Goodbye Girl, Up The Junction and Cool for Cats.

Jools has worked with many artists including Marc Almond, Joss Stone, Jayne County, Tom Jones, José Feliciano, Sting, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, David Gilmour, Ringo Starr, Bono, and Ruby Turner.

From 1982 until 1987, he co-presented the Channel 4 music programme The Tube. Since 1992, he has hosted Later... with Jools Holland, a music-based show aired on BBC2, on which his annual show Hootenanny is based.

Jools and Rod Stewart have a new album out in February 24 reliving the great days of Swing! Well something has to pay for their Model Railway addictions!
