This is the final roll call for my public presentation and in-conversation discussion with Dr Maria Dick at University of Glasgow.
203 of the available 214 tickets are now gone, so it's almost at full capacity, which is really quite amazing. When I started this research this is what I wanted; I wanted people engaging with it, especially those from the communities in which I am researching. I wanted to really break down those barriers between academia and the general population, and open up spaces that would traditionally have been deemed inaccessible to the working class. I've taken a lot of abuse since undertaking this work too, but the support I've had has far surpassed and outshone that.
It is worth noting too, that this work is far from the finished article and there is still a lot to do. In reality, it will most likely take me into the middle of 2025 before it is completed, but if it's to be done, it has to be done right. And while the public attention toward the research does add a lot of additional pressure, it'll be worth it because the pressure to do it well has in many ways driven me to work even harder. There's always that fear of failure but still, these are wee moments I can enjoy.
So, thank you to to all who have signed up, I really appreciate the support and hopefully you enjoy the event. I look forward to your questions and also a wee pint afterwards too!
