Word, from the Boss
Some Promoters won't book you because the Music you play doesn't suit their Events
Some Promoters won't book you because you don't have enough Followers
Some Promoters won't book you because they can't afford you.
Some Promoters won't book you because you don't look glamorous enough behind the decks ( yes there are absolute idiot promoters like that)
Some Promoters won't book you because ( and let's face the bare facts of it ) they are jealous of you and don't want to give you any promotion
Some Promoters won't book you because....well, they just don't like you
Some Promoters won't book you because you don't have enough experience, knowledge or expertise for their events ( I actually respect Promoters like this)
HOWEVER
Some Promoters WILL book you because they believe you can bring that energy and contribute to bringing that great Vibe to their events.
Some Promoters WILL book you because they have heard you on Radio and want you to bring that sound to their events
Some Promoters WILL book you because they see the support you give to other events you're involved in and they appreciate you ( I'm disgusted at the DJs I see with bookings that don't give any coverage or promotion to the events they are playing at. Not a share or a mention. Over privailaged pricks !)
Some Promoters WILL book you for your expertise, experience and selection. These Promoters are the best !
Some Promoters WILL book you because you know the right people and at the right time. Sometimes it's not WHAT you know but WHO you know. ( I'm always dubious of these Promoters and can't really respect them)
As not only someone who has DJd for many years, I have also been a promoter and manager/ creator/ whatever you want to call it of music brands and events for many years. I like to think I am a promoter who carries myself correctly,and fairly. I think it's important to stick to your promises and do your events for the RIGHT reasons....for the Music and the passion.
As DJs we all know Promoters who fall in to every category I have mentioned above.
I know the Promoters who will never book me because they are jealous of me or don't like me. I can spot them a mile off and know exactly who they are.
I also know the Promoters who will book me for the right reasons and the ones who will book me but for the not so honourable reasons. I have turned down many bookings from Promoters who want to book me and haven't a clue about my Music as a DJ ( that tells me their intentions and professionalism is off key).
It's all a funny game isn't it. Have any DJs out there experienced other situations with bookings that I haven't mentioned here??
