You may have seen some of my pre-party gooeyness about the sound system enhancements ready for Party in the Yard - Ashford. Saturday we flexed and the system was INCREDIBLE (not just saying that coz I was looking after sound). The DJ's and artists LOVED playing on the system. The crowd LOVED the system. Need I say more . . . . . . only to put a massive shout out and a big THANK YOU to for making such delicious speakers and making my job so much easier. You cannot under-appreciate the quality. I absolutely LOVE all my RCF USA speakers and the new additions to the Sophia Syndicate sound system were just fabulous!!! 🔈🔉🔊
We were running ART312's, 712's (monitors), 912's (FOH tops) and 8003AS sub unit. You'll see a couple of 'other brands' in the pic, but the RCF's were clearly what delivered (one of the 'other brands' failed me - no signal from one of the subs 🤬). I am so excited to keep building this system. Watch this space . . . . . . .

Woohoo! Exciting :) Congratulations to the winners of The Future Sound of Folkestone Phase 1 Winners :)

Announcing The Future Sound of Folkestone Phase 1 Winners :)

Folkestone Music Town are delighted announce the winners of the first Future Sound of Folkestone project.

The Jury of Fiona Stewart, Nigel Feist and Kevin Grist declared that they were truly impressed with the awesome ideas, talent and diversity of the proposals and have voted unanimously for 2 clear winners.

But they were so keen on the other ideas that they decided to split the remaining money between the other projects so that everyone benefits and the wonderful ideas and creations can be fulfilled.

The two unanimous winners are:

Kellie Whitlock - Urban Groove - / Club Nights / Events for 18-25 year olds - an underserved audience in Folkestone.

The Old Cigar & Olive - NEW Venue Based on New Orleans, Prohibition, Speak Easy Bar, an LGBTQ-Friendly venue with an elegance-meets-chaos theme.

And the four projects splitting the balance are:

Tofts Cafe Bar Folkestone - A project combining Music and Well-Being / Social Prescribing. Reaching out to an undeserved older audience with live music and making it accessible.

The Red Cow - Folkestone - Relaunching as a music venue. Holding a summer charity festival on August 31st with a line-up of awesome talent.

Lucy May Walker at The Music Workshop - A Nashville Style Writers Round focusing on young singer songwriters who share their songs and stories in a circle style event, reaching new audiences.

Young Musician's Showcase by Roxanne Hicks - Singer and partnering with newly reopened venue 20th Century Speedway - Connecting Young People with Music and Learning Opportunities.

Fiona Stewart, the chair of the Jury said: “Small independent venues are massively important, as they create tomorrow’s artists, and promote the towns they are located in as cool, creative and inclusive locations. And in a world of commercial mass entertainment, independent venues’ unique super power is the ability to offer a different quality experience which is very attractive to visitors and audience.
The Future Sound of Folkestone proposals are very impressive and illustrate how unique, interesting, and successful the town’s music scene really is”

We will share more info about all the fantastic projects soon and we urge you to follow their socials for updates too.

Please do ensure you're on the Folkestone Music Town mailing list so you don't miss important updates! :)

See you there!! Everyone is welcome and there's lots of exciting things to chat about :)

This is such an exciting and fantastic opportunity! The Future Sound of Folkestone applications will be open on 17th June.

Check out the details and get involved. With funding from Arts Council England there's budget to support 10 new ideas!

Can't wait to see what newness there is for our fabulous town!

https://folkestonemusic.co.uk/future-sound-of-folkestone/

Woohoo!! Exciting news - The Future Sound of Folkestone Project details are now live!!

Folkestone Music Town CIC (FMT) has a fantastic opportunity through our Arts Council funding to offer support to up to 10 Folkestone-based music projects in 2024.

We are looking for new, different and amazing musical events, made in Folkestone.

The Future Sound of Folkstone is about growing and widening the range of music that’s on offer in the town.

We want to kickstart some new events, discover new stars, provide under-represented talent in our town with a platform, and to increase audiences.

It’s a strategic project that we hope will bring new audiences and revenue to venues and income to artists. And we are going to measure the impact of the projects with a survey we will be launching in parallel.

We have external judges to decide the winners and are very grateful to our associates Fiona Stewart from the Green Man Festival, Nigel Feist from the Broadstairs Blues Bash and Kevin Grist from Electric Medway for being on the panel. :)

Check out further details and get ready for 17th June when applications are open :)

Looking forward to new, exciting projects happening :)
