😎 It's time for another from Oilfield Technology!

🍋 This week we are looking at an article from our latest March/April issue, where Jennifer Knopf, Vink Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG, and Matt Streets, Rawwater, outlined the options available to mitigate the challenges of reservoir souring.

💬 "The injection of large volumes of water into oil and gas reservoirs for maintaining reservoir pressure is typically applied during secondary and tertiary stages of conventional production and oil and gas recovery. Over the lifetime of the well, such sulfate-containing water from various sources – including seawater, aquifer water or produced water reinjection – may lead to the establishment of mature microbial communities in the vicinity of the injection well or deep in the rock channels. The onset of complex metabolic processes causes a raft of problems for the operator."

🇧🇷 Some news from offshore Brazil this morning...

🛳 Petrobras has informed that the FPSO Maria Quitéria is currently en route to Brazil. The platform ship departed from China in May and is expected to arrive at its location in 3Q24.

🔍 The FPSO will operate in the Jubarte field, located in the Campos Basin's pre-salt layer, off Espírito Santo's coast. The unit has a production capacity of 100 000 barrels of oil and can process 5 million m3 of gas. The production projections of the Strategic Plan, which allow for a margin of variation, remain unchanged.

🎉 Vallourec extends its contract with the ADNOC Group and wins a new order

🔍 Vallourec will continue to supply the complete range of tubes and connections for both conventional and complex applications in onshore and offshore oil and gas fields. In addition to the extension, the contract has been amended to expand the initial contract scope of supply to also include a new range of services, such as local pipe coating as well as Vallourec’s new digital solutions such as Tallyvision, which streamlines installation operations by providing full traceability for each tube.

Vallourec has signed with the National Oil Company of Abu Dhabi a two-year extension to the 2019 contract originally worth US$ 900 million. This extension will take effect in January 2025 and will last up to January 2027.

🌊Aker BP has made a gas discovery in the Barents Sea 🌊

⛴️Preliminary estimates indicate that the size of the discovery is between 0.52 – 0.75 million standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable oil equivalent (o.e.). This corresponds to 3.3 – 4.7 million boe.🛢️

🌊Wintershall Dea makes gas and condensate discovery in the North Sea🌊

The well resulted in discoveries in four different formations.

🚢The preliminary estimate of the size of the discovery in the Tarbert and Upper Ness formations is between 1.5 – 3.5 million Sm3 of recoverable oil equivalent. This corresponds to 9 – 22 million boe. 🚢

🛩 It's time for another with Oilfield Technology!

🇩🇪 This week we are heading to the German city of Bremen, and all the way back to our November/December 2020 issue, where Jörg Eitler, NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH, highlighted a case study in which an electric submersible progressing cavity pump system with a permanent magnet motor was able to convey efficiently and reliably.

💬 "For almost 70 years, a German oil and gas producer has been operating oilfields south of Bremen. For historical reasons, the company uses various types of pumps side by side. The installed centrifugal submersible pumps, pumpjacks, and progressing cavity pumps (PCPs) can handle local conditions, such as partially deflected boreholes, paraffin mixtures, and sand mixtures with varying degrees of effectiveness. PCPs, as rotary positive displacement pumps, are particularly suitable for demanding media, such as viscous and abrasive media".

💡 TotalEnergies has entered into an agreement to sell its wholly-owned subsidiary TotalEnergies EP B.V. to Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, a Malaysian independent oil and gas exploration and production company, for a consideration of US$259 million.

🔍 TotalEnergies EP (Brunei) B.V. owns and operates a 37.5% interest in Block B, alongside Shell Deepwater Borneo (35%) and Brunei Energy Exploration (27.5%).

🇧🇳 Block B, located 85 km off the coast of Brunei, contains the Maharaja Lela/Jamalulam (MLJ) field, which started producing in 1999 and represented a net production for TotalEnergies of approximately 9000 boe/d in 2023.

💬 "The use of time-resolved fluorescence and the KemConnect technology offers a measurement tool that can provide rapid and reliable data for the concentration of high molecular weight polyacrylamide polymers in solution down to ppm levels. The method is user-friendly and portable, preventing the need to send samples to offsite laboratories for analysis. The data is not impacted by the presence of oil or other production chemicals in the fluid. Frequent and accurate assessments on the polymer concentration can enable operators to make real-time assessments on the status of their application and adjust accordingly to maximise production and reduce chemical costs and storage. "

💡 Triangle Energy (Global) Limited - TEG has advised that preparatory works by the L7 Joint Venture with Strike Energy and New Zealand Oil & Gas to drill the Booth-1 well in the North Perth Basin are nearing completion and all regulatory approvals have been received.

🔍 The Company now expects the Ventia 106 rig to be released by the current drilling operator in early July with the spud of the Booth-1 well expected to occur mid to late July.

🛩 It's time for another edition of with Oilfield Technology!

🌊 This week we are heading to the North Sea, and all the way back to our November/December 2022 issue, where Jean-François RIBET, 3X ENGINEERING, recounted the repair of subsea caissons at a North Sea platform, using composite wrapping.

💬 "Offshore platforms and their associated subsea pipeline networks have to function in harsh environments. On ageing North Sea platforms, corrosion, structural problems, leaks in seawater caissons and risers, dents, and mechanical damage to pipes and flowlines are all issues faced by operators. These can all hamper the functioning of the platform and production and, at worst, lead to the shutdown of a platform – an unacceptable outcome. However, it is not easy to solve these problems with traditional solutions, which usually require considerable logistics that can impede operations. A composite wrapping solution appears to be a new and efficient way to help platforms to repair these defects, removing the threat of a shutdown, while also being cost-efficient."

💡 Baker Hughes awarded major integrated solutions contract for Petrobras’ offshore fields

🔍 Baker Hughes has announced a significant order from Petrobras for workover and plug and abandonment (P&A) services in pre-salt and post-salt fields offshore Brazil.
The multi-year project, set to start in the first half of 2025, will be managed with Baker Hughes’ integrated solutions portfolio to optimise performance for Petrobras. Baker Hughes’ integrated approach will deploy wireline, coiled tubing, cementing, tubular running, wellbore intervention, fishing, and geosciences services in all of Petrobras’ offshore fields. The agreement also includes Baker Hughes remedial tools, completion fluids and production chemicals.
